When do you know you are old?......
    • When the songs your parents forbade you to play or buy are now the "elevator music" you hear in offices around town.......
    • When you hear your father's or mother's voice in your head when you are disciplining your kids.
    • When your kids are disciplining your Grandkids the same way you did them AND you think it is too harsh.
    • When someone reminds you did the same thing, when you get mad a some young person.
    • When you need oxygen after paying for the family to go see a movie (do movie theaters have finance departments?)

      Please add more

When I had to explain the phrase, "Whatchyoo talkin' bout, Willis?" to my students. I realized I had finally reached the age of disconnect with the younger generation.

    1. When my students had no idea who Sailor Moon was

    2. When I remember the "first generation" of power rangers (Billy, Kim, Zack, Tommy, Kimmy)

    3. When "little kids" you remember from television shows are in their mid 20s, 30s (ie: Olsen twins, Rudy from the Cosby show)

    4. When you're older than some of the parents of your students (and your parents are older than some of the grandparents)

    5. When you find your first, second, then third gray hair sprouting happily from your head

When you start admiring things like the neighbor's lawn sprinklers! Definitely not something young people care about. ;)

I can have a whole conversation related to medical ailments.

I commented on music being too loud.

I can't get up off the floor without holding onto something.

When I saw music I listened to during the "Vintage section" of the videos...Power of Love!!!

When the child you knew when her mom was pregnant graduates college.

When you think that 35 is young and 50 isn't that old anymore.

When almost all my gparents have passed.

I did this when I was a teen. I was driving child I mentioned in my "old" piece when she was younger and I did the "Do I need to turn around and go home?" I looked at my sister in the passenger seat and said "when did I turn into mom?" We both laughed!!!

When you start preferring staying home to sleep instead of going out...

When you have to explain to your child the phrase ¨Everyone and their brother.¨

When you (I) subscribed for a "old lady" magazine like Good Housekeeping.

When you notice the clothes in your closet have a mean age for 5 years, but none of the trendy stuff in the stores looks like anything you'd ever wear.

    Three words: facial age spots

    Two more words: crows feet

We're young, but BF was injured recently and isn't healing as fast as he thought he would. I think he values his youth and independence a little bit more now. Hopefully it'll be motivation to stay in shape.

When a little girl told me I reminded her of her grandfather.
    Took that as a compliment.
When everyone you taught with 20 years ago is either retired or dead.
When everyone asks when you are retiring. I just point at my 6 year old and say never.
Or you are planning your 40th class reunion (this week).
When your child oldest turns 30 (next year).
But the honest truth. When you are too tired to play and exercise or work in the hot Fla summer sun and I have not reached that point yet. Still love my job and the kids and many of my young coworkers.

At lunch last year I looked around the room and realized that I was considerably older than the rest of my teammates. Two of them were my middle school students, and another married one of my middle school students. I'm the same age as the other one's mom. Two years ago I started getting students of my students.

When the invite for the 30th class reunion arrives via FB ( and I know you are NOT too old to know what FB is...)
When you realize at 47 and youngest of seven siblings you are the FIRST to be a grandma
When you are with your mom in the hospital talking about holding her great grandababy in her arms <3
I LOVE knowing I'm "Old" It is truly a blessing!

When you have a great grandchild.

When my children are 32 and 37.
    When naps are necessary.
When people ask if you are still working.
    When you buy prune juice.
When you fully realize how much better it was before cell phones and computers. Children played outside with stick and cans. We didn't lock our car doors when shopping.
We waited for "letters" from the mailman instead of texts and emails. Marriage was sacred and it was strange to hear that a couple lived together before marriage.
Yes, that makes me old. I'm tolerant and don't condemn, but I do cherish those memories of a simpler time.

Knowing that a 21 yr-old adult was just born in 1992...just feels wierd to me!

When you get these little aches/pains at times that you never used to have.

When I was in Vegas this past Dec., 2012 & only walked 1/2 of the strip (if that) becasue my feet were hurting so badly. When I went in 2009, I believe, I was able to walk a lot more of the strip.

I think I started getting gray hair rather early in life & it's in the worst place...all along my hairline smack in the front! It's getting harder to cover the stubborn grays for long...I've got to use a stronger hair dye. Those drug store brands don't last at all really anymore!

I think that I'm a dinosaur! Last night I took my kids to a concert and a DJ (are they still called that) from Jump Smokers played some new and old remixed music. I heard something from my high school and college years and I bent over to the lady next to me and said "Hey, It's music from our era! Old school classics!" She said that she was glad to hear it too. The entire stadium was singing along even though some of this remix stuff was around before the kids were born.

Another thing that I noticed was when the singer says "put your hands in the air" I had two hands up, but the younger generation puts up only one hand.

When I say something like "twenty years ago I ..." OMG- I feel old!

When you can remember when your mom would leave you in the car to run in and grab something from a store or get stamps without worrying about it.

When video games consisted of pong and frogger.

When you can remember a game boy.

When you bought your first music single on a 45 record (yes Janet Jackson).

My mom's 8 track and then had to buy the 8 track converter for our tapes!!! LOL!!!

When you go to a concert and everyone holds up their cell phones instead of lighters...LOL!!!

Well, the singer does say HANDS!!! Those hipster kids!

    I feel old when:
~I say 10 years ago and realize that it doesn't include the 90s.
~I mention some famous from my generation and my students have no idea who I'm talking about.
~When I hear songs that were hits when I was in HS referred to as retro/vintage/etc.
~that some of my students' parents are the same age as me (I teach HS).

Something that pretty much makes a piece of my soul shrivel up and die is when something from the '90s is referenced and my brain thinks it was ten years ago. :(

ETA: Just saw STG's post. We agree, then, on the nineties thing!

Joint pain. It suddenly appeared and won't go away! And, my sleeping pattern changed. I don't sleep through the night anymore.

A student told me that gray in the eyebrows was a sign of aging ... so that too. Another student told me I was wearing old people's running shoes (I thought they were cute and comfortable).

When you go to a Gordon Lightfoot concert and your family doesn't know who the heck that is.

When you remember reruns of Batman, The Munsters, and Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch were a staple when you came home from school. And you had only 3 channels to watch!!!

Oh yes, I had a black and white TV....in our living room. I remember our colored TV (in our family room) with the NBC peacock: IN LIVING COLOR:eek:hmy:

When you know who Theodore Cleaver is as well as Ernie Douglas.

When you realize one of your favorite rock bands formed when you were 3 years old in 1968....and still on tour.

I felt old when I turned 20. Now I'm approaching 30 in a few months, and I'm looking forward to it.

Someone mentioned joint pain, I started feeling that around 26 or so. Some days I feel like an old man... for most of May, for instance.

Also, when I have seen former daycare kids (2 year-olds) that are now in middle school or high school, that does make me feel a little old...

Overall though, I still feel pretty young.
