On top of all the others that people are posting about we love "T'was the night before Kindergarten" I will find the author later if you wish. It is set to the Christmas poem and it goes over how nervous they all are, new pens and markers, crying parents-then in the end the children are victorious.

Our curriculum calls for the Kissing Hand, which is great, I also ALWAYS do a lesson on day # 2 using "The Rainbowfish". Teaching kindergarten it's great to re-inforce the sharing and teamwork concept we work on all year...

I always read The Kissing Hand by by Audrey Penn
Dinofours: It's Time for School by Steve Metzger and Hans Wilhelm
Dinofours: It's Fire Drill Day! by Steve Metzger and Hans Wilhelm (I read this several times so they won't be scared when it's time for us to practice fire drills.... I even bought it in Spanish for ELL students...)
Dinofours: Where's Mommy? by Steve Metzger and Hans Wilhelm
There are other Dinofour books that I've collected that talk about children's fears and behaviors. (fitting in, speaking up for yourself, field trips, doing the right thing, etc.)
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by by Bill Martin and Eric Carle
Chicka, Chicka Boom Boom by by Bill Martin Jr. & John Archambault

I also try to fit in some "How Do Dinosaurs... " by Jane Yolen books to teach playground and lunch manners.

My bunch last year loved Cookie's week. We even had one of those fake cats made out of rabbit fur that looked like Cookie. We read that book during circle time when we discussed days of the week.

I LOVE No! David!... well, ANY of the David books I just love and use them year around.

CCBB is another fav and Brown Bear.

I'm with tgi1515. I read books from the Dinofour collection by Steve Metzger. When Scholastic offered them in their Firefly book club, I purchased the puppets and dolls also. The kids can relate to the message in the books. I also have some of the tapes that go with the books. The dolls/puppets and the fact they are dinosaurs grab everyones attention.

OH, I missed the dolls/puppets....rats. I'll watch for them again. I'm a Scholastic fan and they usually repeat things. My kiddos really love the Metzger books. They like to see how Albert resolves his fears, and lets them know it's ok to be a little scared sometimes. Fire drills are much better since I started reading these books to my 4yr olds!!!! :2up:

tgi1515-As soon as the principal announces a fire drill, I get out the Dinofour book. I play the tape. It has a sound of a fire bell. I also have a picture. The kids have the visual representation of what the fire drill is all about. A few years ago Metzger had books with kittens as the characters. I haven't seen too many Dinofour books in last years Scholastic flyers. I'm wondering if he is developing another series. I did see some Dinofour books and tapes on Ebay. I need to make copies of the tapes. We use them so much, any day they may break. ha ha

Gasp, I didn't hear you say that.... (I actually hide my original CDs and listen to copies or mp3's.....I've spent SO much $$ on my book CD collection.)

I wish I had the firedrill Dinofour's book on CD, maybe that will be one of my next $book purchases.:)
