The title says it all. I'm looking for my holy grail of grading pens, and I would love to hear what you use.

I'm love with the BIC Round Stic. They're dirt cheap, write smoothly, and last a LONG time. I can catch them on sale and buy two packs of a dozen that will last me the entire year with a few left over.

The only draw back is that they are a cap pen instead of a clicker.

Here's a link to the one's I'm talking about, but I use red instead of the blue I linked.

I like using the Papermate Flair felt tip pens. Or even a fine tipped Crayola marker.

Don't you two have problems with them bleeding through the paper? I do almost all my stuff double sided and the sharpies/ felt tips I've tried bled through.

If I did copious amounts of grading, I'd probably go with something cheaper. But I prefer sparkly gel pens in green or purple -- very nonthreatening :)

I only use it on one sided papers. If they are double sided then I use a regular RED pen BUT IT HAS TO BE FINE POINT.

I like the Flair pens too. I usually buy myself the assorted pack at the beginning of the year and work my way through all the colors.

I've started grading papers during my clinicals with a fine point pink sharpie. It stands out, no matter what color ink the students use and it writes smoothly. I'll have to find something else for two-sided assignments, I guess. :(

I always grade in purple. I buy the bags of pens at Walmart with a lot of different colors-they are only $1.00. There are usually 3-4 purple pens in each bag.

I'm also a total Sharpie junkie. Yes, terrible on lined paper and double-sided documents (did my first unemployment form in sharpie and realized there was a backside too late...), but they are so fabulous to write with.

Red GEL pens for me. Sometimes I find myself grading papers on a slant, and gel pens will even write upside-down!

I use a green papermate pen or a light blue RSVP pen.... unless I'm really irrated, then I use red papermate.

I use purple pens too - whatever brand I can find. I prefer a ball point - the flairs seem to run out of ink more quickly.

I prefer using green or purple but, realistically, I use whatever I can get my hands on quickly.

Our school provides us with grading pens, so its usually a green or red Papermate for me. I try not to use red, but its a lot easier for my kids with learning disabilities to discriminate from everything else. Sometimes I end up grading a whole stack with Crayola markers.

I am a Flair junkie. I have several packages of the assorted colors, although I do not use the yellow. Since I lost most of my scrapbooking stuff when my basement got 4.5 feet of water in September, I have also been using my ZIG markers. The fat end is awesome when I want something to really stand out.

The smell of a Sharpie gives me a headache, but I will grade one-sided papers with one. I love my plum colored one.

    I like this bic pen

There are others too. Love to grade using the felt ones mentioned, and there is another one, but I can't think of the name.

I love the Sharpie Pen! Yes, they now make a sharpie pen that does NOT bleed through, even on double sided paper! It comes it black, blue, red, and maybe green. I use them for everything :)

I've been using plain old Crayola markers lately. There are lots of color choices and they don't bleed through the paper.

I love the RSVP pens. If I don't lose them, I grade with the colored ones. I don't like to grade in red so I tend to use other colors.

Well I guess since it's my thread I should chime in. I love American Crafts Precision Pens. They come in a ton of colors, have a felt tip that doesn't get flattened easily and don't bleed through. Unfortunately, I have to drive two and a half hours to get them so next year I'm stocking up.

I have to admit that I am a pen/marker/office supply junkie, so I can't ever just choose one favorite kind of pen.

For grading, I tend to use plain Crayola markers, flair pens, or retractable Sharpies. I have every possible color Sharpie in every possible size, but for grading I tend to use the retractable sharpies...especially when I'm walking around checking kids' work and grading on the fly, instead of grading at my desk or during planning. That way I don't worry about accidentally drawing on myself or students as I walk around.

If I'm grading 2 sided papers, I only use flair pens or gel pens; Sharpies bleed through so I don't use them.

I only grade in red, green/aqua. I actually prefer red. I am a huge pen junky. I have hundreds of pens in my desk apprentice. This summer papermate stick red pens were on sale for a pack of 12 for 50 cents at the end of the summer--I stocked up. However, I do not like how they write they are too light. My two favorite are the Bic Round Stic Grips and the Uniball Vision Elites.

I use whatever I can find that isn't expensive - even the students' highlighters, in a pinch. I usually use purple or green for the first go around, then red after they had a chance to correct it, if it's still wrong.
