Our department chair asked us for our dream schedules for next year because they're already starting to put together the master schedule.

What is your dream schedule? If you could teach any classes for which you are certified, what would they be? Which prep/planning periods would you have?

I'm licensed only for Latin. Next year I will be teaching Latin I, II Honors, III Honors, and IV AP.

We're on a rotating block schedule, where students attend odd period classes one day, and even period classes the next. Class periods run about 85 minutes. Magnet students are required to take an additional "Early Bird" class which meets daily.

    Here's what I'd like:

    Odd Days
    Period 0/Early Bird: Latin I
    Period 1: Latin I
    Period 3: PREP
    Period 5: Latin I
    Period 7: PREP

    Even Days
    Period 0/Early Bird: Latin I
    Period 2: Latin III/IV AP
    Period 4: Latin II H
    Period 6: Latin II H
    Period 8: PREP

My dream schedule (I teach 6 periods traditional day)

    1st AP European History
    2nd World History
    3rd World History
    4 Prep

    5th World History
    6th US History
    7th US History

I would love this schedule - especially 4th hour prep :) Because when we have delays or short days the only class that meets for the full 55 minutes is 4th due to lunch. :)

Block 2: US History I Honors
Block 3: Western Civilzation I CP
    Block 4: Prep

    My dream schedule would be:
    1st--Chem I
    2nd--Chem I
    3rd--Chem I
    4th--Physics
    5th--Physics
    6th--Lunch
    7th--Sub
    8th--Prep
This would put me officially finished by 12:00. It will never happen because they do not let us teach more than 3 hours in a row. I taught this schedule for 2 years at another school and loved it. I had the afternoon to clean up any labs or set up any for the next day.

We have four periods a day on block scheduling - 1st through 4th on A Day, and 5th through 8th on B Day. Classes are typically ~94 minutes.

    My dream schedule:

    1st - Biology AP
    2nd - Biology AP
    3rd - PREP
    4th - Botany/Zoology
    5th - Biology AP
    6th - Botany/Zoology
    7th - Biology AP
    8th - PREP

Yeah, that's no more English - but I think my first love is biology anyway!

My dream schedule would be to have freshman all day, every day. I just love them. Also, to not have a prep and to just work through the day. My time goes by more quickly and I make more money. However, if I had a prep I would want it to be fifth or sixth hour. I also wish we had a creative writing class, or a poetry class, which I would LOVE to teach.

All of our English classes are taught on a 4x4 block, although some other classes, like Spanish, are taught 45 minutes all year long.

    My schedule would be:

    First semester

    1/2: English 10
    3/4: Honors 11
    5/6: Plan
    7/8: Honors 11

    and then Second semester

    1/2: Plan
    3/4: English 9
    5/6: English 9
    7/8: English 9

We don't track except for honors 11 and honors 12. Oh, and special ed, which is completely done in the special ed room and I hate it. We are WAY behind in that area. However, when they asked for "volunteers" to pilot inclusion classes for next year, I basically said I am 100% for inclusion, but it's someone else's turn to pilot something new. I feel like it's always me.

Can't really post my dream schedule, because we have a rotating schedule (A week/B week, different class order every day), but I'd love to teach more electives. I'm having a blast this year.

How does having/not having a prep change your pay? Just curious

I don't know about amarie's school, but in my district, the junior high teachers all teach 5 periods plus homeroom. We have three plan periods a day (one for team). If we pick up a sixth period, we get paid extra (1/6 of a first year teacher's salary - not a huge amount for the extra work).

We have a similar setup in place in my district. If there is especially high enrollment or fewer teachers than needed, teachers in certain subject areas get offered a prep buyout. This means that they will give up one of their planning periods, take on an additional class, and get paid extra. Here, prep buyout pay adds a few hundred dollars onto each paycheck. It's not a whole ton of money, but it does add up. Administrators here actually have the option of forcing us to take a prep buyout.

One of my teacher friends always takes the prep buyout when it's offered because she likes the extra money and it means she doesn't have to get a second, part-time job outside of school. As for me, I probably would prefer not to do it because I really value my prep periods.

I have never heard of that before - a prep buyout. Ya learn something new everyday. :) I don't think I could do without my prep hour- I really enjoy the breather.

Period 3 - AP World History
Period 5 - Honors World History

Period 2 - Honors American History
Period 4 - AP European History/Honors American History
Period 6 - Honors American History

    MY ULTIMATE DREAM SCHEDULE

Period 1 - AP European History
Period 3 - AP European History
    Period 5 - Honors Humanities

Period 2 - AP American History
Period 4 - AP American History

We are on block scheduling, with 100-minute periods. I teach English I for the first three periods of each day, then have prep periods the last block of each day. Supposedly. My prep period is taken up by something else more often than not. I have put myself forth for the Pre-AP English I classes next year, and I hope with everything in me that I get them. My administrator and Dept. head seem enthusiastic about it.

What I hope my schedule looks like next year:

    Day 1:
    Period 1: Pre-AP English I
    Period 2: Pre-AP English I
    Lunch
Period 3: English I (for the many kids who could be in Pre-AP but don't want to do the work; this class already exists, but isn't mine)
    Period 4: Prep

    Day 2:
    Period 5: Pre-AP English I
    Period 6: Pre-AP English I
    Lunch
    Period 7: English I
    Period 8: Prep

I should note that I don't actually much care when my prep and lunch falls. I just want those blasted Pre-AP classes! My "ultimate" dream schedule would involve teaching something like AP World History to juniors... *sigh*
