I'm feeling rather Pollyanna-ish tonight. And this forum could use a little cheering up.

So, what is it? One thing that happened to you, with you, said to you, said about you, anything, today?

Mine: Downton Abbey free on demand in the hotel I'm staying at.

Not the only good thing that happened today, but a nice way to end my long day of travel (I'm going to Maine for a conference).

Well, is it okay if it's a few things? :)

    1. We got our Monkey shirts in so my kids will be sporting their purple shirts proudly each Wednesday! :) I love seeing an ocean of purple on the playground and know they belong to me. ;)

    2. I tried Edmodo with my fourth-graders and already this evening a few have posted some comments. I shared a video on the California Regions so we shall see what they say about that. :)

    3. My annual goal-setting conference went pretty well.

(Sorry for three of them!) :)

I'm getting sick and wanted some orange juice for my scratchy throat, but I never carry cash. But then...I remembered my reserve stash of cash in my desk! I purposely tucked some bills/change away while I had it on me, for those instances where I need a caffeinated drink for a midday pick-me-up (or in this case, a throat-soother). I'll always keep a couple bucks in my desk now!

I don't like OJ because I associate it with being sick, but it never tasted so good...

Might be sad that this is my best thing, but it helped me get through the rest of my day!

School related, but my choir was so much better behaved today. During the first practice they were talking constantly and didn't even learn 1 minute of 1 song. We got a lot more done today!

That reminds me of my winter coat trick. I always stash some cash in the pockets of my winter coats when I put them away. I really really dislike winter, so when I have to get them out, finding $5, $10, or $20 in my pocket makes it not so bad!

In the midst of a stressful and exhausting day, I got to see a couple great friends and chat and laugh with them for a bit. IMO, there's nothing as great as laughing really, really hard with friends. Feels great, leaves me with a happy buzz for quite a while afterward. :)

Well, it's kind of early. So far, the best thing was the nice hot shower!

But at school yesterday, I realized that I'm really enjoying my freshmen. It's only been 3 weeks, and I'm still struggling with names. But my classes already have a nice, comfortable feeling. The kids seem to like the class and to enjoy being there. They're participating, and understanding the material. They appreciate the little things I do, like Times Table Bingo.

    Love Downton Abbey!!

This makes me so happy!! :thumb:

Way to go! It's finally getting cool enough in the evenings to go for a jog around the neighborhood.

This weekend I booked my trip to Scotland. I'm looking forward to getting away by myself for awhile!

Was told by two different people that I had beautiful eyes (hey, it's the little things!)

I had jury duty today, and we were finished hearing cases by 11:00. The school system makes us take the WHOLE day off for jury duty, so I'm home enjoying the day. It's a beautiful day, too!

    Enjoy the day off, Ima!!

So the best thing today was that my director just told me that my mentor told her last night that I was going to be a strong diagnostician!

Finishing "The Wednesday Wars" today. I read while my students silent read, and the ending made me choke up a little bit! Then my students were fighting over who could read the book next. Apparently they think crying is the sign of a good book!

Also, I've been working for MONTHS to get a book that I'm passionate about approved by the board to read in our school. I saw that today it was finally approved :)

I gave a 10 question, short answer, higher-order thinking test.

    No one whined.

No one tried to get me to give them answers.

Almost every single kid spent the entire hour furiously working.

At the end, a lot of kids told me it was really hard, but it made them really think for the first time... and it was better than multiple choice!

(And their answers are looking darn good, too!)

I got internet hooked up at home so I can Skype with my fiance while we're long distance without having to worry about limiting our time so I'm not using insane amounts of data on my phone.

My toughest kid said he loved me even after the worst day.

My daughter told me, "even when we're mad we still love each other because we are family".

I taught the kids a new Kagan structure today (Quiz, Quiz, Trade) and we used it to practice sight words. I heard one particularly silly, active boy say "This is fun!" as he was going around the room totally engaged in what we were doing.:) I love finding things that make learning fun for my little guys!

Also, New Girl is on tonight, so I'm looking forward to some laughs. ;)

The past couple days have been pretty good. Only 17 days left until the wedding so LOTS of errands and loose ends being tied up. I have managed to get tons accomplished, and everything is finally coming together. This engagement has lasted a year and a half, and it's so exciting to see the big day is drawing near! I can't wait!:D:D

I had a ton of great things happen today. Got to see a lot of country I've never seen before (I'm in Maine for a conference). Got to eat some great lobster. Got to see lobster fishermen do their stuff. Had some really great conversation with my boss and coworkers on our looooong trip to this resort.

And, had a fantastic glass of wine with dinner that is making me drowsy!

We were discussing our ages today during lunch. My grade level partners had no idea I am as old as I am. You couldn't wipe the shock off of their faces. :D I have to admit that felt pretty good!

Only a teacher would say this was the best thing: on Tuesday, I had one of the worst dismissals of my career, lol. It was brutal. Loud, crazy, disorganized, etc. On Wednesday I had firm tone, a clear set of rules and consequences, and I allotted plenty of time to practice ;) It went perfectly!

I know it's early, but I only had one tutorial today. It was for 9th grade honors English. My student said, "Wow. That was fun. I think it was the most enjoyable tutorial I've had since school started this year." I loved it!!!

I was out to dinner when a current student and a former student came to the table and gave me hugs, telling me I am their favorite. The boy from last year was everyone's most challenging (except me). I always think I'm the most forgettable teacher so that was special.
Yesterday DH got a job offer with a considerable raise. So happy for him even if it complicates life a little .

I took our Student Council to a regional conference today. They each went to different sessions. When we reconvened they were SO excited and had SO many ideas for student involvement. It was a very good day.

In the midst of a day worse than any in recent memory, my family was amazing. And the network of friends I have at school is incredibly supportive. I spoke to an old friend I hadn't spoken to in a few years. After some tears, we had a wonderful chat.
