Angel? Star? Bulb thingy? Bow? We always did angel when I was a kid. My dad tell an inappropriate joke about why there is an angel on the top of the tree. But when my mom and stepdad had their first Christmas together, they didn't have any ornaments (or money to buy them) so they decorated with Mardi Gras beads, and stuck a stuffed version of his favorite singer. In honor of that, my husband and I wanted to do something non-traditional on the tree, so we top it with an action figure of my husband's.

Do any of you have fun traditions about your tree or what goes on top of it?

I have a red, green, and gold metallic colored bow that trails down and around the tree. My childhood tree had a bow and my mom still puts a bow on her tree and I have continued with that tradition.

An angel--I don't love the one we have and would like a new one, but my kids are all about tradition and won't hear of it.

Usually an angel because that's what we had when I was growing up. My kids are in their 20s now and don't really care what it looks like, so I'm going to change things up this year.

I place an angel at the top. This belonged to my beloved aunt who passed away 5 years ago. I asked my uncle if I could have it (he no longer has a tree) and he graciously gave it to me. Each time I place it on the tree it brings back memories of my aunt and uncle.

Our family room tree has an angel that was crocheted by a dear friend. The tree ornaments are mostly handmade by her, my grandmother or my children or picked up at crafts shows.

I have two trees, a full sized one in the formal living room and a table-top (4 ft) tree in the family room. One has an agel and one has a star....Neither is lighted or moves or anything. Very traditional and old fashioned.

In 2001, after 9-11, I did a red white and blue tree...Big red and silver metallic bow at the top with streamers of the same ribbon running down from the top...I've used the bow ever since.

We have done an angel in the past, but this year we're doing a star.

We have a replica of the Star Trek Enterprise spaceship that blinks. The rest of the tree is quite traditional.

Silver star(lights up) on big tree. Angel on small tree. Lots of homemade and special ornaments-I enjoy putting them on the tree!

On my parents' tree, we have an angel. On the little one I put up in my apartment, I have a star. I'm not sure what I have for the one at school (each classroom has a tree--Christian school) because I switched grades.

:yeahthat: Except I only have 1.

Besides a "Gertie in a Pine Tree" (as I call her in my tree), I have a star. I would like an angel, but I am picky and have yet to find one I am happy with (that doesn't cost a small fortune). Or a better star- I don't care for the one I have.

We have an angel on our tree. We bought it over 20 years ago. We had little money and I made all the ornaments. We splurged on the angel. Each year one of my 3 children puts it on top of the tree. On the angel box lid we recorded the rotation. My children are 17, 19, and 23 and we still do this.

We have a star I picked up last year at Pottery Barn-it's made of brown wooden twigs or something woven together into a star, with lights in it. Our tree is all silver/gold/nature, so it fits really well.

My aunt keeps telling me to make that picture into a Christmas card.

She is only 18 weeks. I put the tree up around 3 weeks ago in the hopes I would train her to not climb it before I decorated. She usually leaves it alone now.

nothing..broke the budget with the tree and ornaments but if I found something I liked it would probably be an angel or a pretty star.

We put up (on parents' tree that is) the Rudolph mask-thing I made in kindergarten. It has been contactpapered many years ago. My little hands are his antlers. His eyes are different sizes and crooked. My name is scrawled across his forehead.

My mom will. NOT. Hear of getting something else. I am thirty.

lol. When I was little, my parents didn't have a ton of money, so no tree topper, so they told me to pick out an ornament that goes on the top of the tree. I picked out this hideous white flocked plastic reindeer. It went on the top of the tree for years until they finally bought a star. Now that ornament always has a special place near the top of the tree for me.

Most of the time I put bows on top of the tree because I have 8 foot ceilings and an 8 foot tree.

But this year we are using the smaller tree, so we bought a silver liht up one. Its looks like one DH had when he was younger, so he wanted it.

We have a lighted star on the top of our tree. This is our 2nd or 3rd star since we put up our own tree. Too indecisive, I guess.

You are all so funny! How cute is that kitten in the tree? I never even heard of putting a bow at the top, much less all the other creative decorations you guys use. I don't think our pomeranian would cooperate if I put her there, though she is awfully obedient...

I'm a little crazy when it comes to Christmas decorating but here goes:

Main tree: Santa, about 20 years old, beautiful
Office tree: Red and gold bow with ribbons draping down the tree
    Basement tree: Snowman
Upstairs landing tree: Red ornament tree topper
    My bathroom tree: Star
Tree above front door (I have a 2 story foyer): nothing, just lights

I do go a little overboard, but I love Christmas. My DH always says how much he "hates" Christmas, but I don't think he can walk into a store without buying a tree. We went to Home Depot Friday and walked out with the tree for over my front door. His idea, not mine!

I do not hate christmas....I love Christmas, but what I hate the time and work it takes to get decrations out. I am only 5'1 so getting the tree out is not an option unless my dad helps and he does not wanna do that anymore. He is not anti Christmas as far as the "true" meaning goes but I guess you could say he is anti when it comes to decorations.
