I was doing some organizing today after school and was just curious about what personal things teachers had in their desks. By personal I don't mean anything too serious of course; just stuff like chapstick or gum. I'll start with my desk...
Bath and Body Works Shea Butter hand cream
Pink body spray from Victoria's Secret
    A few bags of popcorn
Powdered drink mix for water bottles
Cinnamon Toast Crunch (random I know)
Actually on my desk I have some pictures and a few of those cutesy teacher signs and mini books.

No desk. But I do have a teacher area around one of the computers and a section of one of the student tables. I used to have all sorts of things on my desk and in my desk. Now....

a container for various pens beside the computer.
a basket of binder clips beside it
a couple of Post It note pads on the shelf of the computer
a binder called "Data Book" with tons of information about students

On the table I have my grade book (since I'm constantly going back to it to reteach and reassess)
a clip board with the week's lesson plans and anything I need for the week that aren't copies.

That's it. I have a closet full of supplies that I can access if I need anything like scissors. But nine times out of ten, I just use the kid's scissors.

    The Oddities

I have a couple odd thigns on my desk that help keep me sane. One is a sign I have taped to the front. I've actaully moved in from my desk at another job and over 5 classrooms at my current school. It's a quote by a guy named Dick Garber (?I think?) that says, "people are not an interuption to the work. Peopleare the work." Very fitting when you work with a population as needy as children.

The second is a bicycle horn. I use it to wake up sleeping students (I'm at the high school level) and to get their attention if they get loud and off task. ;)
