I use leftover gravy for my Sheperds pie. (If you can find English gravy--Bisto--you will have an authentic English version) Top it with mashed potatoes. If you have a New York Cheesecake Factory near you, they serve a great Shepherds Pie. It is made with hamburger, but tastes great.
The only sheperds pie I have ever had has hamburger in it. And cheesy mashed potatoes on top. My kids liked home made pot pies with filo dough for the top this winter....maybe I have to get them to try shepards pie.
Tonight was kids night in.....we had english muffin pizzas w/ their favorite toppings and smoothies (my 5 can't eat dinner these days without a smoothie...good thing they are just fruit and milk here). Last night was Salmon cakes......mmmmmm
We were going to have carne asada, but DH is not coming home for dinner. The meat will marinate and we'll grill it tomorrw. My son and I had smoothies instead!
I cheated--didn't make them from scratch, bought them frozen. The kebobs were just salmon with a maple/garlic/cracked black pepper glaze. There was one left over so I'm adding it to my lunch salad today.
Wa, have you ever eaten at the Cheesecake Factory in Portland? I recommend the Shepherds Pie there, and it is with hamburger. Tonight we had Chicken Curry. All the talk about salmon has inspired me, and we will have salmon tomorrow night.
I use lamb mince in my shepherds pie....it delicious. But if anyone has a good shepherds pie recipe I'd be interested in trying it. Tonight I made curried beef with rice.
Sometimes I use gound beef and sometimes I use ground lamb. I can't find the recipe but it is pretty easy. Vegetables (carrots, celery, peas, onions), spices (thyme, salt, pepper, garlic), ground meat (lamb or beef), beef or vegetable broth, tomato paste and about a cup of Guinness (I don't like to drink it but it is VERY good in this dish). On top I spread on mashed potatoes and brush the top with beaten egg and bake until it's browned on top. I have never eaten it besides the one I make so I dont' know if my recipe is better than any others but it does taste good.
Last night I baked chicken breasts. Plus, we had parsley potatoes, broccoli, and mandarin oranges. OH! - and my husband bought some lemon cookies. Tonight, I'm going to take the leftover chicken and make chicken and noodles. I'll add a lettuce salad and some kind of fruit.
Last night garlic shrimp, broccoli and carrots Tonight nothing fancy just mac and cheese and green beans
Tonight we went to Chucky Cheese for my grandson's birthday. Lots of noise, lots of kids, and I am sooooooo glad it is over. The pizza was sub-standard, I had salad bar.
Garlic Parmesan Chicken and the BEST broccoli in the world!! http://www.amateurgourmet.com/2008/11/the_best_brocco.html
Crispy soy taquitos by Starlight (I think that was the brand). I liked them! We also had organic strawberries, Gala apples, carrots, and little tomatoes. I love eating on the night I get groceries!!!
Miss Jennifer--I am off in the morning to buy some broccoli. That recipe is wonderful, and so easy. I put the site in my favorites list, and will use it often.
