I am trying a new Pad Thai recipe tonight. If it is any good, I will share it. I had to go to a few stores to find Tamerino, but found it at Fred Meyer.
Tonight we had a ratatouille of kale, celery, olives, onions, tomatoes, and eggplant. We also had black beans, and a salad with broccoli and mustard sauce.
You shred some chicken and mix with chicken broth, cream chicken soup, paprika, basil, a little garlic salt and cook on medium for an hour. Then you spoon over rice and top with shredded cheese, chow mein noodles, green pepper, tomatoes, green onions, pineapple tidbits, and cherries. It's a favorite dish of the majority religion in my state. Very yummy!!
Mmmm! Sounds yummy! (I'll bet you could make that in a crock pot - and have it with some bread from a bread maker! :lol
Actually, I am an INDEPENDENT! I baked my salmon in the oven and threw my rice in the microwave. I did not use the crock pot OR the breadmaker! (And, I do have both.) :thumb:
I'm proud to be cooking my #2 crockpot meal I've ever made. I'm making chicken with a marsala sauce. I felt like making a crockpot meal after reading about so many people on here with something smelling so good in their house so I'm attempting a new meal tonight here!
We're just having leftover eggplant parmigiana but I just put a chocolate cake into the oven for dessert! Can't wait!
The Pad Thai was eatable. The last batch I threw away. I am narrowing the perfect ingredients down. I used tamarand and rice vinegar and soy sauce. I had read that authentic Pad Thai does not have soy sauce in it, and I agree, the flavor was off. So I am searching for more recipes. Last night I made the pasta figola, in the crock pot--it was great.
Doesn't pad thai have fish sauce in it? I don't like anything fishy so i'm not sure i'd like to try it  Could that be the missing flavor? Pasta fagioli sounds good! Maybe i'll make that tonight!
Last night I made chicken cacciatore. It was great. Tonight I am not sure either a turkey burger or pork chop with a sweet potato and spinach!
I made something new tonight - and it was SO yummy! Italian sausage sauteed with onions and apples with fried potatoes. It was really good!
Teacher NY, I have found a million Pha Thai recipes, and some do call for fish oil, but don't worry, I have some on hand. That is one of the frustrating parts, buying pricey ingredients, and then not using them. I bought the fish oil for a crock pot recipe. Tonight we had BBQ chicken, potato salad, baked beans, and tomato salad. It is going to begin to rain tonight, so I had to get one BBQ in.
Did anyone see the Bobby Flay Phad Thai "Throwdown" episode? I think this is the recipe he used: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/shrimp-phad-thai-recipe/index.html
I saw that throwdown! He lost! It's a hoot when he loses LOL Tonight I'm making lemon chicken and potatoes au gratin.
Do you make homemade au gratin? Do you have a good recipe? You're right about Flay losing that episode. Food Network should post the winners recipe! Though, I think they both used fish sauce. I remember in his practice recipe Flay added soy sauce and found it threw off the taste (like the recipe Old teacher tried). Nevertheless, Flay's recipe does have good reviews so it might be worth a try. There are so many ingredients that I don't have time to be the test kitchen for this one.
Yes, I make them from scratch. I just got the recipe from a Secret Restaurant Recipe cookbook but I can't remember which restaurant they are from lol Potatoes au Gratin 4-5 russet potoes, peeled 1 cup heavey cream 1/2 cup milk 1 1/2 tablespoons flour 1 clove minced garlic 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper Chives-to taste 1 tablespoon butter 1 1/2 grated cheese (I use cheddar) Preheat oven to 400. Slice potatoes 1/4 inch thick (great if you have a mandolin). Beat together cream, milk, flour, garlic, salt, pepper. Coat baking dish with butter. Arrange 1/4 of the potatoes on the bottom of the dish. pur some cream mixture over potatoes. Sprinkle on chives. Repeat. If you run out of cream mixture and it doesn't slightly cover top of the potatoes I add a little more milk/cream.Cover and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 40 minutes. Sprinkle cheese on top and bake for another 5-10 minutes or until brown on top. This recipe is great but I find i have to add a few more seasonings (garlic powder, more salt and pepper).
Last night the "meatloaf night"....lol....we never have one of those with a salad, fresh fruit plate and smoothie. My 5 yr old can't eat a meal w/smoothies. Milk and fruit, no sugar, how can you go wrong with that!! Tonight, out to the Mexican Restaraunt....YUM
Yes, I saw the Throwdown for Pad Thai and that is the recipe I used. I did put the soy sauce in it for the same reason Bobby Flay did--the color was off. Well, I have found one more recipe to try. When I find the "right" one, I will share.
Had dinner with my aunt, uncle and cousin. My uncle is a fabulous cook. We had chicken parm, pasta and homemade sauce.
I went out with an old friend and I had crabcakes and clam chowder. Really rich, and I am not feelin' so happy about it now.
Grill season is finally here (for me anyway)! Does anyone have any interesting things that you grill? Tonight I'm grilling turkey burgers and making mango salsa to put on them. On the side we're having spicy corn and black bean salad.
We had lamb that I cooked in the crock pot. I added carrots and potatoes during the last 2 hours. It was very tender and juicy. It will be lamb stew tomorrow. I am looking for a lemon cream pie recipe.
We had lamb stew and cheese bread for dinner. I did find a lemon cream pie recipe--and we had it for dessert. I think we will have chicken curry for dinner tomorrow, as DD and I are going shopping tomorrow. We are starting early, so will have to start the day by eating breakfast out.
Tonight we took advantage of the gorgeous weather we've been having and grilled. We had pork chops and baked potatoes. Since it's supposed to be nice again tomorrow, I think I'll grill burgers or chicken.
My grilling plans have been foiled! Rain for the last 2 days. I have no idea what to have for dinner tonight! I just want to grill!
I haven't pulled my grill out lately either. Right now, we're having days of rain. We need it to stop so that the fields will dry out and the farmers can plant their corn. Last night - shepherd's pie, cranberry sauce, carrots/cauliflower with dip, and apricots. Tonight - leftover shepherd's pie!
I don't really have a recipe! It's just one of those throw-together things I do. meat (either ground beef or cut-up beef: browned), whatever mixed vegetable stuff I have (cut-up), cream of mushroom/celery soup, mushrooms, seasonings, mashed potatoes on top (or you could use tater tots) Nothing fancy!
