I make mine as patties and cook them in a nonstick pan with a little Pam spray instead of deep fried balls...I use parsley, egg, cumin, garlic, chili powder, chickpeas, breadcrumbs to make the patties. I make a tahini sauce, tzatziki and tomatoes for topping on pita.
I actually made them in the crockpot and they are wonderful. great texture - actually got a little crusty on the outside like they are supposed to - not mushy at all. And so much better for you, and easier, than frying. I accidentally quadrupled the cayenne pepper in this recipe, and I think they are really good, if you like spicy. I got the recipe, of course, from the crockpot lady, who is my hero. http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/05/crockpot-falafel-recipe.html
Thanks for the falafel recipes! I have only made them a few times from a mix I got at the health food store. I will try to make them from scratch next time. I always make them as patties too.
My husband is out of town in MN this week for work - so I'm taking a break from cooking! I've ordered cheese sticks from Papa Johns tonight - and will make a salad to go with them. Silverspoon - the crockpot lady is my hero too! I've made a lot of her recipes over the last month or so - and haven't found one yet we didn't like! It's SO great knowing that dinner will be ready when we get home - and it's good! And so far what we've picked have been healthy!
This was the first time I had ever made them and I was surprised at how easy they are. Seriously, they can't be much harder than mixing the box mix together.
We had fresh pasta with sausages, garlic bread and corn with tons of butter. I was so tempted to grab a dutch apple pie-it would have been the perfect dessert-but we have oreos to eat up.
I was thinking the same thing...hmmm either juice in the morning or make an apple pie?!?! I just don't know!!! (Sidenote my friend made an apple pie for our fam after my grampa passed she said I was going to get you flowers, but then I remember how much you said you loved apple pie... It was so nice of her & it was YUMMY!!!) But I still have a lot of sugar cookies left with peppermint sprinkles on top...should I send you some?!? LOL!!!
I think I'll make Jambalaya or Spanish chicken for dinner. I have a ton of red and green peppers to use up!
I LOVE dutch apple pie. It does have the crumbles on the top, which are HEAVENLY when mixed with vanilla ice cream. I must have it tonight now that I'm still thinking of it. But what to have with it?? Hmmmmm.....
Well, that doesn't sound like any fun!!! LOL!!! I'm going to be stuck with these cookies... I made a bunch of them for hubby to take to work & he came back with a lot of them & I had a lot of them leftover to begin with!!! UGH!!!
Tonight left over chicken and some left over chicken and rice soup. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday so no meat for me: tuna for lunch and eggs or waffles for dinner
TeacherNY-I think I'm going to make Jambalya tonight, too! That sounds wonderful! Is there an online recipe that you like to use? I bought the apple pie and ice cream last night, and it was heaven.
I ended up making chicken last night so I'll make the jambalaya tonight. I use turkey kielbasa and sometimes shrimp. The recipe I have is from a cookbook but sometimes I improvise. If you make it make sure you add smoked paprika!! It makes a world of difference.
Speaking of Jambalaya...did anyone ever try that jar of jambalaya sauce from Trader Joe? I loved to use that and add extra things to it. Last time I checked they didnt' make it anymore
Tonight is roasted pork tenderloin with herb crust. I threw some potatoes on one side of the roast with some of the herb mixture, and on the other side, I threw some carrots and onions with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. I might make a glaze or sauce for the sauce since I tend to overindulge on the condiments. I can't eat dry meat!
I just cooked the teriakki chicken from the crock pot lady. We will have them with dressed up rice, and a raspberry pie tomorrow night.
I don't know for tonight... I made some rice and chicken in my crock pot last night and packed some for lunch today. It was disgusting. I think I accidentally set it on high for 8 hours instead of low and the rice just turned to this glue-y disgusting mass. And of course it is the first day of Lent and I gave up going out to eat alone during Lent (as in picking up convenience foods, drive thru, delivery, etc.). So I guess I will have to dig around the freezer.
Tonight we are having baked macaroni and cheese, leftover pork roast and steaamed green and yellow beans.
