I have a 6th grade student who is reading at a DRA 4, end K beginning 1st. My other students, in a self contained English class, are reading end 3rd beginning 4th. What types of materials would be appropriate without being for a 6 or 7 year old?

Ask the special ed. coordinator/director what curriculum you should use. We have Reading Mastery and Wilson Reading Program plus we do modify lessons from their regular ed classroom. The district should be giving you the curriculum. You'll have to modify his work a great deal.

The students all get read 180 in another class period, there is no other curriculum provided. I worked with two of the students last year and don't have a problem getting materials for the 3/4 grade level that are age appropriate. I am mostly worried about finding materials for the first grade level for an 11 year old boy. The county does not provide any resources outside of grade level and the elementary schools do not have enough materials to share.
