What university did you graduate from?

I'm pretty sure ALL the Arizona universities will be snatched up, even Grand Canyon University, so that's why I'm going the out-of-state route.

So, I'm leaning towards either Oregon State or University of Oregon, as well as San Francisco State (the gators), Tulane University (the pelicans) or Carnegie Mellon University (the Scottish Terriers and my interest here is mainly because of Randy Pausch). So, I gotta decide which one I want to use in my room the most. Decisions, decisions!

I graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.

Our Mascot is the Mustangs and his/her name is Peruna. She is a black stallion shetland pony.

As far as I know, Peruna is the only mascot to every "kill" another mascot, so she/he is bad azz. The horse killed the goat of another team when she stepped on it by accident.

 

I graduated from University of Maine (Orono). The Mascot is a black bear named Bananas.

I aslo attended St. Josephs College of Maine. The mascot is a Monk. I spent one year at the University of Southern Maine and the mascot is a Husky.

I got my M.S. from UGA, and my B.A. from Agnes Scott College, with the very fitting mascot of the scottie (as in Scottish Terrier). Colors are purple and white.

I actuall graduated from the University of Oregon, but my husband graduated from OSU. I saw the light and am now a die hard OSU fan - complete with an entire bulletin board dedicated to them in my classroom! Can't stand the Ducks now.

 

I'm going to encourage you towards OSU! I know they have a department devoted to assisting teachers with projects like you are doing - from sending posters, banners, etc., to providing the contacts with alumni, students, faculty, etc. I think I still have the Oregon Stater magazine with the contact information at school. I can see if I still have it if you want me to.

 

I graduated from Texas State University - San Marcos. The mascot is the bobcat.

This school is known for it's teacher program. A high population comes here to either be a teacher or sports trainer or whatever it's called.

University of Kentucky -2x undergrad and grad - blue and white - WILDCATS!!! How 'bout those 5 new NBA players coming from KY????

(As a native of INDIANA, I don't get to brag on my Wildcats much....and I must admit it killed my dad to have to write tuition checks to a KY school....except that at the time we had moved there with IBM, meaning we paid in-state tuition, so he didn't cry too long.)

Sam Houston State University/mascot: Sammy the bearkat/colors: orange and white

 

As already noted, the University of California Berkeley ("Cal" to its alumni) has the Golden Bear and UC Santa Cruz the Banana Slug. In addition:

UCLA: the Bruin

UC Irvine: the Anteater (it was supposed to be the Ostrich, and if someone asks nicely I might tell the story AND quote an early Anteater cheer)

UC Riverside: the Highlanders (from the part of town)

UC San Diego: the Tritons (the campus is a stone's throw from the Pacific Ocean)

UC Davis: the Mustang, though students are known as Aggies because UC Davis is traditionally an agriculture school (and has a well-known veterinary program)

UC Merced: the Golden Bobcat, though rumor has it that this newest of UC's campuses may change to the Fairy Shrimp. I think I don't want to ask.

UC San Francisco: the Bear, though since the campus is pretty much exclusively graduates, I don't think it much matters.

 

Well, you have definitely put OSU in slot #1 by telling me that they assist teachers with projects like the one I'm going to be embarking on. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would love any information that you can give me. Thank you so much!

 

I would expect that most universities and colleges have outreach departments that do this sort of thing, in fact: one has to recruit students SOMEhow

University of Kentucky Community College System? Do you mean Kentucky Community and Technical College System? I ask only because I've never heard of a UK community college.

 

Just Me,

When I got my Associates, Henderson Community College and several others were associated with UK for easier transfer of credits. I went ahead and transferred to Murray instead and still got credit for almost all of my coursework (had a good advisor that went to bat on a couple of things).

OK--I graduated from the #1 Party School in the south--The school with an unprecedented 6 NCAA baseball titles since 1991, home of Mike the Fighting Tiger, where we bleed purple and gold--Louisiana State University (LSU).

 

So you don't have a "Civil War" in the house, then? I've heard that OSU-Oregon rivalry is pretty intense. Our Cal-Stanford rivalry is generally a fairly friendly rivalry - there are even flags with both logos on them that say, "A House Divided."

 

I didn't go to university. I was sent to college by my employer 1 day a week for 8 years. Eventually I achieved a Royal Society of Chemisty degree. I eventually went to Uni when I decided to become a teacher and had to do a one year course to gain my teaching certificate. To be honest it was no big thing to those of us who had worked for a living for a few years. In fact I have not played as much golf since the days I was at 'University'!
