This upcoming year, each teacher at my school is going to adopt a university to incorporate into their classroom/curriculum to teach students that college is the natural progression from high school. We will use the university as a common theme within the classroom where we'll learn their fight song, create chants, write letters to alumni, etc. I know that all of the Arizona universities will be taken first, so I'm going to just start my search outside of the state. I would like to know what university you graduated from and what its mascot is. Anything else you want to say about your university is welcome as well. Thank you!

Miami Dade College (2 year, then known as Miami Dade Community College)-Mascot, the Sharks

    University of Miami (B.S, and M.S.) Mascot-Hurricanes

A small point here, is that "University", is not necessarily the natural progression. Community colleges play a vital role in higher education as well. I think, maybe a better term in the OP would be "College is a natural progression", but then again, maybe not. Trade school is a great option for many people as well. We need skilled mechanics, plumbers, hairdressersss, carpenters et al. I don't know about you, but when there's three feet of water covering my floors from a busted pipe, or my car needs repaired, I really don't care if the plumber or mechanic has a college degree...I want to know he knows his trade, and knows it well!

There are also liberal arts colleges, which are most emphatically four-year rather than two-year institutions: one thinks of Swarthmore, Mount Holyoke, Pomona and its sister institutions, St Olaf's, Reed, College of Wooster...

University of Michigan: Wolverines. Go blue!! I can't believe how many alumni I see/meet out here on the west coast. But I think we have the largest alumni network of any university, so that makes sense.

I also endorse the UC Santa Cruz-they are the banana slugs!! ;)

    University of Florida--Gators

There is a debate in our state right now about college being the natural next step. The super and her governor puppet master changed the high school track to all college-bound. Most of the candidates who are running for state super are for putting the vocational track back in.

I think we have a strong group of technical colleges in this state. Not all people need to go on to a university.

Never thought I'd agree with a Gator

Ya know, when I was doing my master's, we had a crocodile (or two, as it turned out) take up residence in the lake in the middle of campus. He was frequently seen sunning himself on the concrete base of the fountain that was in the middle of the lake. We would joke around with the newbies on campus that of course the croc was welcome...so long as he wasn't a gator. :D

The program does focus on two-year colleges in junior high and then trade school in high school so they are not left out, just focused on later in a student's education if that ends up being their choice. Since I am an elementary teacher, that's why I asked about universities. :)

EiffelTower...please don't take what I said as an attack...just a viewpoint. Having spent the majority of my career working for a community college, and having to tell many students to consider other types of post-secondary education, the issue is near and dear to me. I've seen many talented adults thing they're somehow less worthy because they don't have a college degree, in spite of the fact that they were awsome tradespeople, and made a darned good living at it. I'm happy to hear that other types of post-secondary education are inclued in the big picture :)

mmswm: I didn't take it as an attack. :) It was a valid viewpoint and I just wanted to make sure that I let you know that different avenues are explored during this program, just past the elementary school years.

I currently have an associate of arts in Education from Brookdale Community College in NJ. It's mascot is the Jersey Blues, named after the oldest uniformed militia regiment continually operating in the Western Hemisphere, founded in 1673 in Monmouth County (They are currently a reenactment group)

In the fall, I will be attending Kean University, whose mascot is a cougar.
