I wake up about 3:30 and leave the house by 4a.m. to get to schoolby 5a.m. Again I really like the peace and quiet, although sometimes it is hard to get up that early. I get extra things done in the mornings and not in the afternoon.

    Arrive @ 8
    Kids in classroom@8:15
    Kids dismissed @ 2:45
    Teachers an leave @ 3:30....

My 1st year I stayed any where from 4pm to 7pm
My 2nd year I stayed any where from 3:30 to 6pm
This year? I'm aiming to stay from 3:30 to 4pm...it's a goal I made last year and I shaved off an hour. So there's hope! :)

"Showtime" at my school is 8:10. Officially, we have to be there half an hour before that, I think.

Unofficially, as long as you pick up your kids in line by 8:10, nobody cares what you were doing or where you were before that. We have a few teacher who literally walk from their cars to the playground, keys in hand, pick up their kids, and take their classes to the room. These are good teachers who are no doubt ready to teach at 8:10.

Dismissal is at 2:30. Same thing. Unless you have a meeting, you can leave as soon as they are on the bus, picked up, or in the office waiting for late parents. That takes about 5 minutes. I've actually been walking my bike as I walked the students to the front of the school, and raced the school bus as it pulled away (causing my "street cred" among 3rd graders to rise dramatically).

We have a lot of teachers who walk their kids to the front of the school, and go straight to their cars. However, these are not the same teachers who go from their cars to the playground first thing in the morning. In other words, the teachers who get there at the last minute in the morning stay late in the afternoon, and visa versa.

As for me, I get there at around 7:30 and leave at 5:00. I spend about 15-20 minutes at each end either getting ready for school or getting ready for my ride home.

They were nice enough a phone booth at my school for that purpose.

I can get a lot more done in the morning before school than during the rest of the day, so I try to get to school between 6:00 and 6:30. My contract time is 7:45. Kids start coming in the room at 7:50 and the bell rings at 8:00.

I live very close to the school, so I am usually there 30-45 minutes after I get out of bed.

Student Times: 7:50 to 3:00/3:10 (We have two groups of busses.)

    Teacher Contract Time: 7:50-3:20

    My Time: 7:15-4:00 (most days)

I get up at 6:30, and I'm out the door around 7:10. I'm 4 miles of rural highway from school. Usually toward the end of the year I start coming in closer to 7:30. I always have my room ready before I leave for the day. All I need to do in the mornings is turn on the computers, eat breakfast, and make my morning bathroom trip. (Often I can't go again until lunch.)

I'm NOT a morning person, so I get everything ready the night before. I can be on autopilot in the mornings.

I usually get up around 4:30. I like some quiet coffee time and my commute is between 45 minutes and an hour depending on the winds.

Not much of a morning person... so last minute arrival 7:15 according to contract. Students arrive at 7:30.
Prek/K students dismiss at 2:25 all gone by 2:45 or so.

I stay late most days. In the beginning I stayed as late as 7.

Towards the middle tot he end of the year I would get out a lot earlier anywhere from 3:30-5. Finally learned theres no way to get everything done everyday.

School is 9-3:20 and the official workday is 8:45-3:35. Although I'm not a morning person, I'm a lot better at getting stuff done before school starts. A normal schedule for me:

    Up @ 5:45
    Leave home @ 6:30
Get to school (~30 miles away) @7:15 or so
    Kids @ 9:20 (I do pull-out groups)
    School over @ 3:20
    Me in my car @ 3:35:01 :D

We have to be in school from 8:30-4:00. When I first started out, I would stay really late (8:30-9) nearly every night. Now I only stay late once or twice a week, and usually not later than 5:30.

My problem is that if there are people around, I talk to them instead of getting work done! ;) There are nights when I close my door and turn the lights off, just so no one comes in and talks to me!

We have several teachers that do that. I'm at the end of the hall so no one comes down.

Kids are let in at 8:00; late bell at 8:10.
    Dismissal at 2:35.
Contracted leave time was 3:00. I was usually there until 4:00.

I generally am at school by 7:30 a.m. and leave around 4:10. We are required to be at school from 8:40-4:10. Students begin arriving at 9:00 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:40.

I like getting to work early in the morning to beat the copy machine rush. I'm also fresh and awake :). I carpool with two other people, so it makes me arrive around the same time each day!

For those of you who were staying really late at night-did you ever feel uncomfortable or was there always a lot of people around? I'm going to be teaching in a part of town that isn't the best and don't plan on leaving after daylight hours unless there is some sort of function going on with lots of people. I just don't feel comfortable staying by myself after dark. I plan on staying probably at least a half an hour, more than likely an hour, maybe more, after school and getting there at least 30 minutes early.

I have a new job and don't know the bell schedule yet. However, I used to come in at 7:20 with kids at 7:45 and then kids leave at 3:05 and I would leave around 6 on drama practice days and 3:15 the other two days.

A friend of mine worked at a school that the policy was you had to leave before dark. Even though the parking lot was gated & you needed a code to get in or out it just wasn't safe after dark.

The only time I stay after dark anymore is when we have an evening activity, like Family Math Night, or Back to School Night, when there will be lots of people and activity. The neighborhood in which I teach is not generally very safe at night.

Our contracted time is 7:15 to 3:00, and I usually arrive around 7 and leave by 3:15. Sometimes I will stay later if I have something specific to do, but it's rare. I also rarely take anything home. I've gotten more efficient at getting more done during the school day the past 2 years. And even though I love my job, giving free overtime rubs me the wrong way.

It's harder for me because I have to bring my kids with me, & they come to my classroom when school is over- so I get NO alone time in my room!
Last year I generally got there around 7:15. We were required to be there by 7:45 and students came at 8. I watched the Today Show every morning while I got my room ready ;) My kiddo played the computer. Other kiddo is starting K this year, so now will have 2! Kids left for day @ 2:45, and depending on mood of kiddo I stayed til 4 or so. 2 days a week daddy picked him up and I stayed til 6ish.

Our hours are changing this year, and I am NOT looking forward to it. Our school day is 45 minutes longer. We can come @ 8 this year.. students arrive at 8:15. They'll be dismissed though at 3:45 instead of 2:45. That is SO late.. I worry about my K boy handling that long of a structured day.. no naps at my school or rest time in K. We will HAVE to be out of there by 4:45ish for dinner and practices etc..
