This article made me do a double-take. Apparently some schools are serving lunch at 9:30 am(!) most often due to overcrowding. http://moms.today.com/_news/2012/09...or-school-lunch-perfect-when-its-945-am?lite# My tardy bell rings at 9:15, lunch is at 12:45, and dismissal is at 3:45. That's reasonable to me. I'm pretty sure our first lunch starts at 11:15 and the last lunch goes in a 1:45. However, my school has a pretty bad overcrowding problem, even with a modular cafeteria and 18 (or is it 17?) classroom trailers. If our growth continues I could see us having to start "morning lunch" someday. Craziness!
um, school starts at 8:15 for me and lunch is 11:15 and dismissal is 3:15. It works for me. By our pre-k eats around 10:30.
Tardy bell is at 8:30, lunches start at 10:20 and the last class enters at 12:30. I go at 10:50. So, I suppose it is the equivalent of a school starting at 7:30 and having lunch at 9:20.
I think anything before 11 is completely ridiculous. I had 11:00 lunch my first year and hated it because I was so hungry at the end of the day, but I would say that being generous anything between 11-1 is a reasonable time for lunch. I now have 11:50 and I think that's a good time.
The earliest lunch I've ever seen for anyone is for the PM kindergarteners who have lunch as soon as they arrive on campus during the 10:00 hour.
I have a different lunch time every day, according to which grade level I teach that day. They range from 10:15-11:45. I don't like it-especially the 10:15 lunch!
This year I'm free both 4th and 6th period-- one is lunch, the other prep. So on a normal day, I can prep at 10:35 and have lunch at noon. But on a mass or other morning assembly day, I can eat 4th if I choose. My son has lunch 7th or 8th period on alternating days. I'm not sure of their time schedule, but it's a 9 period day, so figure somewhere around 1:30. That's late for a kid who can't really look at food when he first gets up. I'm trying to convince him to have something-- anything-- in the car each morning, at least on those 8th period days. Friday he had a banana, so at least I knew he had something in his stomach.
Our lunches run 10:40-1:20. It's hard for the kids at the beginning of the time frame and those at the end, but we will allow an extra snack break either in the morning or afternoon which really helps.
Our first lunch is at 10:50, but we also start at 7:45, so they are ready to eat by then. My lunch starts at 10:55, but my conference period is at 12, so I sometimes save my fruit from lunch until then and I usually have a small snack after school.
We have two lunches as well. One at 12:30 and the other at 1:15. My SO's school has early start/dismissal, so they eat lunch at 11:00-ish and are done school by 2:00
We start at 8:05 and dismiss and 2:35. Everyone has lunch at the same time--11:55-12:55 (first 20 minutes to eat, then recess).
Our kids go out for recess for 35 minutes, and then have a 25 minute lunch. I think the kinders start at 10:30 (with recess), and the 4th graders leave the lunch room at around 1:00. They manage to get all 530 kids in and out of the lunchroom in 2 hours.
Our tardy bell rings at 8:00, dismissal is 3:20. First lunch is 10:15, last lunch ends at 12:45. My 5th graders go at 11:30.
We have a breakfast program from 7:40 til the bell rings at 8. K eats at 10. My preschoolers do, too. We have to go at 9:30 to fix the lunches and bring them back to our room. We have snack around 12:15. I've had kids not want to eat lunch but would be starving by snack - an actual lunch time. :/
Our first period starts at 7:35. We have five lunch periods. The earliest starts at 9:57. The latest starts at 12:58 so there are two extremes. My lunch period is 10:43, but I feel bad for the kids with early lunch, as well as those in 7th period who don't get lunch until 8th.
Do you serve breakfast at school? If yes, I am pretty sure that free/reduced lunch kids must have 3hours between meals.
For years our first group of kids age lunch at 10:30, while the last group ate around 1:00. Now we feed the entire school (around 600 kids) from 11:00-1:00.
I teach HS. School starts at 8, we have a break at 9:35 and 10:00, lunch periods are at 11:50 or 12:40, dismissal at 3:30. I have the 11:50 lunch so it's not that bad and the first break at 9:35. Makes it easy to spread meals out. Of course we have an early dinner once we get home. My daughter's elem school starts at 7:50, lunches start about 11. Her lunch is at 12. Dismissal is at 2:45.
Students arrive at 9:00. We have snack at 10:40 and lunch at 1:00. They are dismissed at 3:45. Works for us!
We start at 8:30 and my second graders eat at 11:25 seems to work out nicely for us! I can't imagine having lunch before ten am!
We start at 8:30. The students all have 30 minutes of recess followed by 20 minutes for lunch. The kindergarteners and first graders begin recess at 11:15, and the 4th and 5th graders finish lunch at 1:05. Everything fits into that time span. The second and third grade has the middle slot, which I feel is the perfect one. They go to recess at 11:45, and eat at 12:15-12:35.
I've never heard that...we are free/reduced lunch and we do serve breakfast. Breakfast is at 9 and lunch for some kids starts at 11. My class isn't until 11:50 but we're one of the later lunches.
