I have to be at school by 6:30 and the first bell rings at 6:53. I normally wake up at 5:30am.

I am always tired when I wake up, any way to avoid that?

I'm a morning person! (No shock there to lots of you.)

I'm up at 5 on school days.

I'm up by 5:15 for work. It takes a good 15 minutes and a cup of strong coffee to get me functioning... but then I hit the ground running.

Are you sure you're getting plenty of sleep?

I'm up by 4:30 but will have to change that to 4 this year to be able to work out before my husband gets up and wants to work out.

Drama Teach, I used to be a total night owl, but I've switched ever since I started going to bed earlier. Now, I absolutely LOVE the mornings! Two years ago, I remember saying to myself after grumbling, "No one should wake up before the sun." And now? I feel "off" if I wake up after the sun has come up! Anyway, I wake up at 5:00 AM, and the only thing I can recommend to you is to get more sleep so that 5:00 AM comes happily to you. :) Try taking a melatonin around 8:00 or 9:00 PM for about a week, and then your body will start getting used to it and will want to sleep naturally around that time.

I have been waking up at 5 to leave by 6 or 6:15. But that was for high school, this year I'm elementary. I'm not sure what time I'll need to leave the house but plan to try 6:45 so I'll probably wake up at 5:30. My drive to work is 30-40 minutes.

I get up earlier than I need to because it gives me time to "wake up" before I start my morning routine. I get up at 4:30 and get caught up on the news, that gives me time to wake up before I work out, walk the dogs and get ready for school.

It may not make sense, because I could sleep those extra minutes, but I hate stumbling around in the morning half asleep trying to get all of my stuff done.

Working out in the morning might help, too.

Yes, working out in the morning is a fabulous way to start your day and get your energy flowing, as ku suggests.

I get up at 5:30, but may need to change that to 5am once the baby comes. I leave for work by 7 at the latest and need to be at work at 7:30.

Unless I need to get in earlier, the alarm goes off at 6am. Hubby will turn off the alarm and go make me a fresh pot of coffee. He brings a cup to my nightstand and I give it about 5 minutes to cool off. By now it will usually be 6:30. I sit for 5 minutes as he reviews what the news is on my laptop and I sip my coffee so I can finally wake up. By 6:45 I'm really awake and getting ready. I can be out the door any where between 7 am (if I get myself ready the night before ) to 7:20 am (if I'm running around trying to find stuff). My first class doesn't start until 8:30, so my 40-minute commute isn't too rushed.

I've woken up earlier than that though so I can get out the door by 6:30 am and get to the school by 7 am. That's the earliest time my swipe card will get me into the building, so I can't come any earlier than that.

I wake up at 5 am, workout for a half hour, shower, and try to get to the school by 6. Then it's last-minute preparations for the day, pre-trip inspection on my bus, bus route, and then the school day starts! I love getting there before anyone else, as well as the therapeutic workout sessions that clear my head before the craziness starts.

I wake up at 5:30 so I can be at school by 6:30...the bell rings at 8:10 but I am a morning person and can get so much done at that time. Besides, unless I am tutoring, I can go home by 4! I prefer to prep in the AM...

I wake up at 6:20 after hitting snooze a few times. The goal is for me to be out the door before 7. It was hit or miss last year. I want to do better with waking up and getting ready as quick as possible for this coming year.

For many years I have been up at 4:30 to get to school early (5:30) so I can have time to get things done. (I'm a morning person, too). New school this year and teachers don't have to be there until 8:30. Now I can sleep in late until 7:00 and still get to school an hour early.

I was waking up at 5:45 to workout and be ready to leave by 7am, would arrive between 7:15 and 7:20. Not sure what my new schedule will be. I still have to do the drive during rush hour and it is 45 minutes with no traffic. The good thing is that I'm out in the middle of nowhere so traffic will mostly consist of tractors

I am a morning person too. If I'm still asleep at 6:00 AM, I feel like I've wasted a good chunk of the day. I usually get up by 4:30, but I'm also usually asleep by 9-9:30.

School starts at 9:15. I am contractually obligated to be at school at 8:25. I generally arrive at 8:00. I leave the house at 7:50 ish.
I set my alarm at 6, but sometimes I don't get out of bed till 7. I hit the snooze for an hour! I am so NOT a morning person.
I try to go to bed early, but I'm just not tired until about 1 am!!! Maybe I should try melatonin or something!

I get up about 6:30 most days. I don't need to set an alarm usually, but there was one day last year when I did oversleep, so I always set it now.

I am going to really, really try to get up a few minutes early and work out (or at least walk around the block) before school.

School starts at 8.35am but I aim to be there for 7.15am to give me some prep time. I have the alarm set for 6.30 but often wake before that so I get up and go in early.

I used to get up at 6:15 and leave by 6:45. The last month I've been getting up at 4:45, working out until 6:00, and still leaving around 6:45. I'm trying to get back on track with weight loss and I like getting my workout done before work. I've never done it this early in my life-but it's hard to workout when I get home, especially when my husband is home.

One heck of a thread necro here.

    I set my alarm for 5 everyday. I used to do 5:30 but I wanted to go to the gym, so on gym days I wake up at 5. However I still wake up at 5 but I haven't been able to drag myself to the gym. >__>;

5:45 to hit the road by 6:30 or so to get to work by 7:15.

I'm always tired when I wake up, but I'm usually fully functional within 15-20 minutes.

I work out in the afternoon to avoid waking up at 4:00!!

That's tough. This is actually one (although somewhat minor) reason I opted to be homeschooled when I was in high school.

Yesterday I was listening to a podcast on sleep issues and the doctor explained that teenagers need around 9 hours of sleep since they are going through puberty (hormonal changes, body growth, etc). I think it's a crime that high schools start so early. But, what can we do?

Being anywhere at six-something in the morning? Oh, no. Seriously. Couldn't accept that job. I have to wake up much earlier for my new school and it sucks...I am up between 5:30 and 6:05.

I hate the mornings. With a passion. I wake up at 7 AM to be at school by 8 AM. Thankfully, it's a short drive, and I get most things ready the night before.

Morning person forever. I get up about 4:45am and before six on the weekend. We have to be there by 7:30. I am there by 6:40.
I usually get up before the alarm goes off.

I'm moving to a new school next year and the hours haven't been set yet. I'm really (really, really, really) hoping that it won't be later than an 8:15am start. I don't know what I would do with myself in the morning.

I get up between 5:30 and 6. I have to be at school by 8 but usually get there by 7:30 (with a 30 minute commute). I really would rather start earlier and get out earlier. I would not want an 8:30 or 9am start time.

I wouldn't call myself a morning person, but I've never hit the snooze button in my life. Once the alarm hits, I don't want to delay the inevitable.

I get up at 7AM and leave the house at 7:45. I get to school around 7:55.

I'm usually up (depending upon the "snooze alarm" factor) by 4:45 a.m., on the road at the latest by 6:15 a.m., 45 minute drive, there by 7, we start at 7:25.

No one ever seems to talk about dismissal times when the advocate a later morning start for high school. Getting out in the late afternoon to early evening would have been worse in my mind.

My high school started at 7:35 and went until 2:45. I can't imagine having the 8:30-9:00 start time that people are always wanting. To get out of school at 4:00 or later during high school would have killed my social life, left little time for homework, caused practices/rehearsals to either last much later or to happen before school, and wouldn't have allowed time to hold a part-time job as a senior. It would have been awful.

Besides, anyone who's having a hard time with high school classes at 7:30 in the morning is gonna be in for a real grumpy time with an 8:00 college lecture.
