My district has them in AESOP on a pretty regular basis. At least one per school during each semester and the positions tend to run for an entire semester, but I have no idea what a safety aide actually is.

    Can anyone explain?

In my school, this usually means a para who is in charge of just duties (crosswalk duty, lunch duty, recess duty, hallway duty, etc.). It's called a "safety" position because these people only do duties rather than our instructional paras who work in classrooms or with small groups of students. We typically have 1 or 2 safety paras at my school because there are too many duties for all of the regular paras to cover.

    Ahhh that makes sense.

In my district usually they're assigned to specific classrooms, typically kindergarten.

Good to know why they're classified this way.
