    Interesting read
FROM CNN:What teachers really want to tell parents
..."Look, if I get an offer to lead a school system of orphans,
I will be all over it, but I just can't deal with parents anymore; they are killing us."...

How good or bad are the parents you have encountered?

That's a plus of middle school. I'm not sure most of my kids even HAVE parents.

My students' parents are great for the most part. However, I think this is a cultural thing. All of my students except for one are hispanic and recent immigrants. Their parents grew up in Mexico. They highly respect teachers and see us as true professionals- equal to a doctor or lawyer, so they're not always questioning what I say or believing a confused 6 year old over something I tell them. I've also never heard the "My Johnny would never do that, the other kids must be bullying him!" or other things like that. It's pretty nice!

Sounds like my last school in the Yuma AZ area when parents could attend parent/teacher confrences you never really had the "Mi José nunca haría eso" problem.

Funny... I was just coming here to ask if it was too early to start our annual "Things we wish we could have said to THAT parent" thread.

Much like the handful of bad teachers giving all of us a bad name, it's the handful of "bad" or "crazy" parents who give the rest a bad name.

It would be so much easier if we could just quit pointing fingers and actually work together.

A parent whose child is in k, told our k teacher that she teaches her daughter to defend herself. She said this in response to her 5 year old daughter talking back to the teacher.

Many parents in our area seem to be absent. Where did they all go?

I wish I could copy this article and send it home with every child in the school. We have some great parents, but we also have those helicopter parents, backseat drivers, couch quarterbacks, and lipservice only parents.
