I'm getting a bachelors degree in elementary education. My major area of concentration will be social studies. I'm looking for a minor area that will help me become highly employable.

    Thanks!

If you are Elem. Ed, get your reading endorsement. I have been graduated for 2 years and I am still having trouble finding a job. I am so mad at myself for not getting mine! ANYTHING to set you apart...

I did not have time for a minor, but mine for a while was in Youth Ministry. I wish I would have followed through with it.

    Math or science.

I don't know about the reading endorsement, here in Michigan it seems that people want the reading specialist (BR, not the BX). I don't know if you can get the reading specialist as a minor.

As a new grad, EVERYONE I graduated with is getting their Master's in Reading, so I wouldn't go for that. Everyone is pushing for reading, but soon there will be a lot of reading teachers out there. If you are in a state where ESOL students are prevalent, I would do that. My program came with an ESOL endorsement and I got a job over teachers who have had experience just because of that endorsement. It's not hard and it's pretty interesting.

As a recent graduate I would say math or a foreign language would be hugely helpful. Spanish is in high demand!

Getting a degree/certification in reading is common.
I would say go for reading, special education, or math. Just an idea.
