I heard some tidbits about a novel (approx the 9th grade level) where three boys get on a bus together, the boys get rowdy, and one boy ends up killing another boy with a rabbit punch.

Does this novel sound familiar to anyone? I believe one of the character's names is Goty (don't know the correct spelling). Parents in the novel take no responsibility for their children. I Googled some info but with no luck.

I am in a workshop that showed a teacher on a video discussing this novel with his class, but the name of the novel is never mentioned. We at the workshop are curious to know! Thanks for any help you can offer.

Nope! This is it. The class and the teacher seemed so interested in the book that we (the teachers in the workshop and the instructor) wanted to figure out what book it was.

Are you certain it's a book and not a short-story/novella? I cross-referenced and searched under every search engine/library I could think of. I just kept coming up with a non-fiction story of three kids killed on a bus in Chicago. It's really driving me nuts. I may need to got some of my lit friends on the case.

I don't remember. It was about teaching advanced reading comprehension strategies and making students aware of their levels of discussion questions. I'll find out the name of the video tomorrow at our next meeting.

In the video the students were looking through their books for answers to the qs the teacher asked. It looked like a novel--but that's no guarantee. We were all squinting and trying to see the book title--no luck there either.

LOL! That was a level one question that a student on the video asked. I didn't know either, but it's sort of like a karate chop to the back of the neck (and one that killed the boy on the bus).

A series of quickly delivered punches (sort of like when a cat "rabbit-foots" you) :)

Maybe the OP meant to say "sucker punch"?
