I was listening to some U2 the other day and wondered what other teachers listened to. I stick to the soft rock, with the occasional slide into R&B. I think teachers have this "read only" stigma, but I am sure we all enjoy our own favorites artists and styles of music. Please share and happy listening.

My favorite is Morrissey, but mostly I listen to indie rock and alt rock.

I don't listen to R&B, country, contemporary xian, or classic rock.

Teachers listen to everything others do. Some are heavily into rap and everything in between. I am not huge on today's R&B and Rap like I used to be, but I do like the music of Jay Z, Rhianna, Beyonce, Kanye West...anything that sounds good.

Sometimes I come across a rap song I like and it makes me feel very young again :)

My absolute favorite music though is oldies from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Most of that music was way before my time: Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, The Temptations, Little Richard, The Beatles etc...
Then also for me is contemporary Gospel. I gotta have that for these rough times in life.

Two words: Michael Jackson. Yes I'm one of his fanatics. :D

I also enjoy a little classical music and the instrumentals of John Williams, music score genius. My husband turned me on to him. I love his music.

    1) Shiny Toy Guns
    2) Phoenix
    3) Lilly Allen
    4) No Doubt/Gwen Stefani
    5) Garbage
    6) Birthday Massacre (my friend's band opened for them at a concert, which is how we learned about this band)
    7) La Roux
    8) The Killers
    9) Frou Frou
    10) The String Quartet
    11) just started listening to Ladytron

Oh, and I'm so glad I don't have to listen to Dr. Jean or Raffi and get their songs stuck in my head anymore!!!:D

Basically, they listen to the same types of music as doctors and lawyers... and plumbers and electricians and secretaries and everyone else.

It always confuses students when I listen to music that they consider "edgy" or "cool."

I had no idea that I was supposed to be listening to "teacher music"! :p

I'm a hard rock and metal fan. However, the stations that play that don't come in at my house. I only listen to them in my car or on my mp3 player. At home I can only get two stations. One is a pop/top 40 station that is nothing but talk in the mornings, so I listen to the "young" station that comes in from the next town. It's a "university-audience" station, so I know way too much about music too young for me. And then I also know a lot of country and contemporary Christian music because that's what my DH likes & performs.
