What kind of bag do you use to carry all your teaching stuff back and forth to school in each day?
giant Vera Bradley tote that I also use as a weekend bag when I visit my parents or elsewhere and I plan on using as a diaper bag when I have a baby!
I have one and I agree it's perfect but I got it at a garage sale and it's too beat up to look professional anymore. It's definitely not in my budget to buy a new one, either.
I got mine at the outlet mall years ago, and it still looks brand new! Actually I've yet to wash it
You could check out TJ Maxx or Marshalls for a nice tote for cheap(er)
I have used Thirty-One bags in the past. This year, I've opted for an old Nine West bag that I bought at Kohls back in 2008 (maybe). It's been used on and off, but it's still in great condition and works perfect for the day-to-day.
I have a black cross body trager bag. Is it pretty? no. Its heavy black canvas basically. But I have had it for years and it still looks brand new. It holds everything I need.
I use my baseball gear bag...its huge and holds everything!
Spoken like a man! I don't know of many women who could pull off that look (mind, I didn't say any, just not many).
The patterns that are being discontinued are usually available at a good discount. I want to say mine was 50% off when I bought it. Still not cheap but better! That's what I'm using now and while I love how much stuff it holds, I hate how floppy it is. Everything in it slides all over the place. I wish it was a little more rigid and held a shape better. I've been looking for something else but will probably have to put any purchases off until my first paycheck.

Guilty on all counts as charged
I have a market bag that's similar in shape to this one, although mine is a fair bit larger. It's made from recycled plastic and is super strong. I've been using it for 4 years and it looks brand new.
I also use a Vera Bradley bag. The colorful flower pattern on mine makes me happy.
I use the soft utility tote from Thirty-One. If I don't have as much to take, I will sometimes use the organizing utility tote. I like the bigger one because it can fit my computer, my purse, and my lunch!
I want the Vera tote - just haven't found the one I want to commit to yet. Canvas bags are always useable, but the lighter ones will save weight to carry around. I know several teachers who use backpacks, so if you have one of those already, no need to change. If you are going with canvas bags for now, ask around. I carry one that my hubby brought home from some convention, and also have one from my first NSTA convention, so my financial outlay was $0. Like I said, I want a Vera bag, but it has to fit my computer, etc. What I don't want to do is to have a nice bag but still need other bags to take up the slack. If I am going to have to do that, I might as well just use the cheap canvas bags. If you have a backpack - and who doesn't - use it for now. Oh, and best of luck on you student teaching!
I use the utility tote from Thirty-one. Its a retired style and pattern, but I found it on ebay. I was using a Vera Bradley tote, but found it was often too small and harder to clean. I like the Thirty-one tote better because its a little easier to clean. My bag usually spends most of the day sitting in the floor or the bottom of my bookshelf so I wanted something quick and easy to clean.
I also have one of those rolling briefcase type things which is just the right size, but I feel funny using it, though I have used it for school before.

I use a nice tote from Target. They run about $39.99 so I'm able to buy a new one each school year. I don't tend to take work home so it's just for my lunch, water bottles, and keys.

I used a Vera bag for awhile. Now I use a really nice book bag. I don't have much to transport but it's easier on my back by far.
I use a tote bag from Lands End. That thing is basically indestructible. I love it.

I was using an old Vera Bradley bag but the strap ripped halfway through last year. My husband bought me a Coach diaper bag and that's what I'm using now. It will work as a diaper bag when I'm on maternity leave in a month too!
Book bag. I was using a Michael Kors shoulder bag and it got so heavy that it messed up my left knee where I had to get PT on it. I'm also a city commuter via public transportation. I will never use a shoulder bag again, some days we carry waaaaay too many things and my knee, shoulder and back on one side don't need to suffer.
I clean out my tote every week, to prevent exactly what you are talking about. I suspect the back pack idea might be a better choice for me, and maybe you? Worth a look.
Yeah I used the shoulder bag for about 3 months then stopped in November of last year. The book bag is so much better. Some days my bag would be light but most it was not. Too many things to bring with me daily.
