I want to start working on my Master's Degree (love to get those lane change credits), but I don't know what in. I want to keep it education related, but I want to get something that will get me out of the classroom. So I'm looking for ideas in what to get a Master's Degree. What do you have your masters degree in?
:help: (A student saw me typing and wanted me to put the help guy in, so here it is).

I'm starting a MA in Educational Leadership in the fall. Community College Leadership, to be exact. It's similar to administration, but more higher ed.

I'm in the process of earning a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I would like the option to leave the classroom someday to either get into curriculum writing or to be an advisor.

I may someday use the certification to become a reading specialist

I have my Master's in Instructional Technology. I get a certification that allows me to be a computer teacher in grades k-12 or I can be a staff developer and run professional development. I can also be a technology coach/integrationist for schools that have them.

I am working towards my master's in reading. I would love to be a part-time push-in reading intervention teacher someday.

Three classes to go on my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership (I decided against the principal certification and am aiming for the endorsement).

I wanted to do ESL so that I could have another teaching option if necessary, but my district will only guarantee you the salary steps if your credits/masters is directly in the subject you currently teach. So I'm getting mine in special ed. My district pays significantly more for having a masters, so it's pretty much a necessity. I just got an almost $2,000 raise just for getting my first 16 credits, and once I finish the masters I will make over $7,000 more than someone with the same experience and no grad credits.

I got my masters in elementary education with a leadership concentration that gaveled my supervisor's certificate and then I took the 3 additional classes (others overlapped with my program) to get my principal's certificate.

Just an FYI for anyone interested (I've posted this before)--

If you are ever interested in teaching at the college level (at least community college), you'll need at least a Masters degree, and must have a minimum number of credit hours in the specified subject area.

So, a HS biology teacher who has a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction would not qualify to teach college level biology. IF he had (in my state) a Masters in C&I, including or in addition to 18 credit hours in Biology, he could.

It makes it difficult as a community college recruiter to find adjunct faculty. There are many many teachers who would love to teach a college class in my area, but even with years and years of experience, and sometimes even with a Masters degree, they just don't qualify because the degree isn't in what they want to teach.

Just something to keep in mind if anyone is deciding on a major! :)

I started working on an LD endorsement, but found out it was more credits than a masters. So I transferred those credits to a reading masters. I have 3 classes left and am hoping my state doesn't follow the new trend of not paying teachers more for a masters.
