I'm trying to decide what theme to do...if any at all. I would love to hear all of your creative ideas. Thanks!! Ashley
for now at least, mine is just smiley faces. I didn't exactly do that on purpose...it just so happened that a lot of stuff I bought for my first year had smiley faces on it, so I became known as "the smiley face classroom". I like it, so I'm using it again this year.
i did my preschool room last year in "under the sea" theme...the kids loved it! i had a fish tank in the room with 2 gold fish (bert and ernie) that were incorporated in all of our activities and the kids talked to everyday. for a month, all activites revolved around the sea theme and i was able to use their art as decor in my room! very fun!
I don't have a theme as many of you do... but I picked the colors light blue and light green and will be decorating the room with teaching tolerance posters and we will be also looking at world maps... sort of a global/diversity/tolerance theme to begin the year with.
I am going to attempt a Hawaiian themed room... just beginning to put it into the works because I am unsure about my grade level assignment yet. Should find out on Monday, it will be either 4th or 6th... taught 1st last year, BIG CHANGE!!!! : )
Hmmm... I don't have a theme either. Most of the teachers do in the grade below me, though, so I'm feeling a little pressure this year (my first year in fourth grade). Any ideas? Bear in mind that I am a man, so nothing too "cutesy"!
I am using frogs and the whole "leap into learning" theme. I'll be finishing up my room this week, so I'll post pictures.
This year I am using Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Look Who's in ....'s Room! as my start of the year BB. The kids names will be on coconuts around the tree. Then as we introduce each alpha letter (Kinder), I will put it on the coconut tree. It's my first year doing it-I'll be making the tree and coconuts and laminating it to re-use it again next year. Hope that helps!
I have also been debating about a theme. I would like to do it, but I have a pretty small room so I just feel like to use space to create the theme will take away from space that could be used to put up instructional materials or student work. Does anyone else with a small room have this problem?
This year I decided I wanted to do a year round themed room so the welcome board that will be on my door will stay on year round. I decided to go with a seasons theme because I love the way the leaves change each season. This is the poem I wrote for my door: The seasons will change, And I will change too. This year will be fun, In grades one and two. I drew a big tree on the door and put students names on things like, fall leaves, butterflies, snowflakes, caterpillars, etc. Then inside my room I did each wall themed for that season, including the same design of a tree on each wall but that branches had different colored leaves depending on the season and of course the winter wall has bare branches but snowflakes coming down. I will take pictures once I have a chance to get all of this up in my room. This year will be the first year I try a year round themed room. Hope you all like my ideas !
There is a really good 'car' theme on one of these threads. Maybe if you type it in under search you may find it. It has something to do with turning the front of your desk into a car, doing a car track around the room with students names on the cars for reading (I think it's called Race around the room) and then the back to school bulletin board had a car theme too. Good luck, I hope you find it okay.
Just a note for you, if there is a Party City near you, you could really make out on decorations!! They always have a lot of Hawaiian themed stuff for over the summer, and I'm sure it's on clearance now that Halloween is coming out.
