I'm doing a 'rock' theme as in "Our class rocks".... Ipod, guitars, American Idol kind of bulletin board with the kids setting goals on their "play list". Beth Newingham has some ideas on her site. Anyone else have any ideas n this one?

I did that last year and did "Racing into 5th Grade". I got these car cut outs and put each kid's name on it and made my bulletin board into a race track and put the cars on there. I got a bunch of race car stuff from a fellow teacher so I had name tags, borders, cars, etc. We made license plates that said something about themselves and hung those on the walls also. They thought it was fun.

I'm going with a Curious George theme "Be Curious"...I can't think of a cute saying to go on my door. Can anyone help?

Room 1: A great bunch of learning minds (with names on bananas?)

    We're learning bunches!

eeek. This is my first year in first, and I might even get kinders too.

 Our school is using something similar to that to start our year. I found some cute hot air balloon cut outs with stick figures to put around my door. I am going to put "With Knowledge You Never Know Where You Can Land."

    back to school theme

I found some things at the teacher supply store - cowboys, cowgirls, bandanas... etc. WE really can't do a whole lot of stuff in Lawton, due to the fire marshall's codes......do you have that problem????

    2tired, Howdy! Sapulpa represented here!
We can't hang things from the ceiling anymore, but so far, we seem okay with displaying on walls and bulletin boards.
I saw the western stuff yesterday at Mardel's big sale. Wasn't going to buy it until I found an intermediate resource book for back to school that had a whole western theme section with cute activities and displays for only $5. Anyway, I changed my mind on my theme and bought out the western stuff. Now I have to go get denim like material for my bulletin board to go with it.
Are you doing anything special for the Centennial?

:( We have to have 80% of wall with NOTHING on it, cannot hang from ceiling, had to replace the BB cannot put paper on paper, so we painted them, nothing hanging on the blinds - we don't look like a classroom, we look like a prison......

How about Look's Who's Been Spotted....You could have a ladybug with no spots and they children could earn spots on her wings for good behavior or completed work.
    I love ladybugs too...

    my theme

i got a bunch of mcdonald's fry boxes and hamburger/cheeseburger wrappers (boys on one and girls on the other...the fry boxes will have fries coming out of them) and i'm going to have their slogan say...

3rd grade...ba da ba ba ba...i'm lovin it!

if you decide to do this, it's not easy. i had to call mcdonald's marketing office and get their permission. i have to put the copyright symbol on the poster/bulletin board too. but i'm going to use it all year long and change the 3rd grade part to go along with whatever we are doing at the time. such as...

Maps...ba da ba ba ba...i'm lovin' it!

    have fun!

I missed the sale at Mardell's. I would have spent money that I really didn't have to spend anyway. I know this is the 100th year for OK. but this is my 1st year to teach (I just turned 41 today!) and I'm really feeling overwhelmed.
I'm going to keep everything really simple and just use "Smiley" faces around my door. I will be teaching in a private school and we do not have any bulletin boards that I know of. I did purchase the OK. Statehood bulletin board pack and I plan on using that for our state history lessons.
Are any of you "Okies" planning a landrun? If so, how are you going to do it?

    Help

I am a first year teacher, and I want to do something with horses. Simply because they are my favorite animal, and I want to have something that is truly me that I can share with my class. Any ideas would be great!!!

newtexteacher, congrats! Here are a few things that popped into my head:
Saddling up for _____ grade (you could even combine a little western theme with your horses...there is a LOT of that available right now!)

"No horsin' around, we love to read" (or anything else)

If you didn't want to do the western theme, you could do a barnyard look to your classroom. Take butcher paper so it looks like "hay" stacked on the wall, horse shoes, etc.

    Good luck!

I have not done this theme, but maybe something to do with orchrds- Welcome to Ms._____Orchard? You could also have the kids do a project at the start of the year: The Apple of My Eye BB. Kids could decide what or who they love and why?? Good luck:D

HOW CUTE!!!! I am not sure of your goals/objectives, but you could give them each a passport to get stamped when they learn the main point of whatever you want them to know. IE. Learning about the Middle East, Europe, Austrailia, etc. This would be a completely CUTE theme that a child of ANY age would LOVE as long as you stick with it and are consistent! Good luck!

Hope- what about "Curious about Learning" or "We're Bananas over 1st Grade"

Its not that its a dumb idea- sometimes people don't respond to each post or people just didn't have a thought at the time. Its not dumb at all...its really cute!

The "theme", if you will, for my entire room is bright colors, stripes, and polka dots. Now I realize this is more just decoration vs. a theme, but is there anything I can do for my door that might fit into this??

I've finally decided on my own theme...I just haven't decided on the bulletin board's title yet. I'm doing either "Blast off into learning" or "Our Class is Out of this world". I bought rocket ships that will have each child's name on it, as well as rocket ship border from Carson dellosa. For the cubby name tags, I bought a space-themed classic accent as well as a mini version for my behavior chart. Of course I couldn't find desk name tags that I liked, so I'm just going generic with them. :)
