You know the kind that has the kids names on the doors or just outside the classroom.

I've seen: A Sharp Bunch (names would be on pencils)
I'm So Hoppy To See you ( names on Frogs)

    How about:

Put your butts in your chair, it's time to learn! (chairs, or backsides could be used)

    or...

    Sit down and shut up.

    :D

I've seen some teachers use a movies theme..."Presenting room ---, starring ... " and then put kids' names on stars

I like the stars idea. Apples are a good theme - "________ Grade has a Good Bunch this year!" I just love to have something with all their names up on the bulletin board. Then I take the first day of school pictures and get them up there within the first week.

My year long theme will be a patriotic/USA travel theme so on the outside of my door I will either have a winding road with cars that have the students' names and in the first week I will add a picture of the "driver"

    or

I will make "license plates" with their names on them.

I get these interlocking puzzle people and the kids draw themselves. I put them up with the heading "We Fit Together". I put that up in the room, but for next year I found a large die cut of a child. (18 inches long) I plan to let the kids decorate themselves and I'll make a large bulletin board in the hallway. I found a border with children on it. I haven't figured out the slogan yet though.

I want to do something star/moon/etc related as I'm getting married next year and my new last name will go great with that type of theme. But my school wide theme is safari this year, so I'm feeling pulled to do something to do with that theme. I think I just want to buy/make cute decorations. I always get sucked into that during the summer!

Last year I did "We're a Gold Star Class" and I wrote their names on gold star cut outs. It didn't really go with our theme, but it was a Dr. Jean cheer that was a staple for our classroom. :)

I bought a classroom quilt from oriental trading. They put their pictures indside a plastic pocket and decorate the fabric around it. I'm going to use this. On one of the spare quilt squares I wrote, "Our First Grade Family."

I have a bee theme in my room. Next year, on the outside of the door I'm going to put a bee hive and bees with their names that says, "Buzz on in to First Grade."

Once my bee theme gets old, and my materials start getting worn out, I really want to do a star theme or a beach theme!!

Next year it's going to be, "Under the Big Top" (circus theme). Last year it was race cars and the year before it was frog related.

    You all are very creative!!

I'm planning to do a beach theme this year... Does anyone have any "slogans" to go along with it? I'm trying to figure out what the bulletin board outside of my room could say?

Our school decided that this year we have a school theme and use it all year long. Ours is something like Soar High with Knowledge. You can use things that fly in the air. Do any of you have this? How do you feel about it? I personally think everyone will pretty much have the same bulletin. I bought some flying bees, butterflies...Does anyone have any ideas on how to use this as the holidays change?

Maybe think of man-made things that fly... planes, rockets, kites, satelites etc...

One year I did a "Whale"-come to Our Class bulletin board with a 3-D whale and a variety of beach objects: crabs, fish, shells, buckets, shovels, sand castles. You could get stuff at the dollar store and make it very dimensional. You could also use sand buckets in centers or to hold supplies.

2nd graders love beach stuff, you could even throw in a little Sponge Bob Square Pants incentive thing, but I couldn't live with that for long.

Oh wow! These are all great ideas. I think that I would like to take something off of the beach theme but direct it more towards our school mascot of sharks...but now I can't think of anything for sharks. The only thing that I can think of is something like Taking A Bite Out of ??? or something simple like Shark Attack!
    Any suggestions?

Last year I did "Licensed to Learn." I made a license for every child w/name, age, etc, and I used our school mascot as a watermark. On the first day of school I took a picture of every student and put it on their licenses. They loved it.

I once had a Welcome poster on the door that I loved, and wish I still had. I'm hoping someone has seen it and can help me track it down. It was basically a "recipe" for a great class, and came from a Mailbox Magazine (primary). You simply trim the corners of a white poster to resemble a typical recipe card shape, and list some "ingredients" (such as 1 cup of cooperation), then the students' names. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Maybe a "Finding Nemo" theme but focus on the shark characters and their qualities in the movie.

    Dog Theme

I used the dog theme last year.
    *Helping Hounds for helpers
*Hot Dog, We are a community of great readers! (dachshund die cuts)
*Put your best paw forward in our community!
*Put your paws on a great book! (for the reading corner)
*"Paws" to read in our neighborhood!

I love this theme! I made a huge bone with muslin and stuffed it to make it 3-D. I used an Ellison die cut to make wienie dog cut outs. I put collars on them with tags that had student names for Accelerated Reader points and moved their dog as they progressed. I used real milk bones as border for one bulletin board.

    Hope this helps.

    5th.

Just recently I was surfing the teacher supply websites and one of them (I don't remember which) had 5" cars that a person could so easily write the students' names on and have a small picture of the student in the driver's seat.

But now I am waffling because I also saw cool (white w/ red, white and blue boarders) 5" stars and a 15" round w/ stars and stripes on it. I am thinking about putting my name on the round and the student's names on the stars. I actually ordered these becasue if they don't go around the door I will use them someplace else.

I better decide soon because school starts August 6!

I know I am "long winded" It is horrible when you try to talk to me in person:p

Here is an idea if your school does A.R.

I saw a teacher at my old school that used a tall cabinet to turn it into a race track. She covered it with paper, then made a windy road out of black paper. She then had cars with each child's name on it. Along the road she made signs with major points on it (ex: 20 point club) It was very cute!

This thread is great! There are so many creative people on here! Our 5th grade is also doing a "Bee" theme this year. I was thinking about putting each child's name on a bee cutout on the door...maybe adding a hive. I'm not sure yet. Does anyone have any ideas for a Bee theme? I saw the "Buzz into __ grade," but I'm worried that may sound too young for 5th grade.
