A co worker is also looking for work, and keeps finding these posts.....So what are they????
In my area, transitional classes are used in lieu of retaining a child. They have passed many of the skills, but aren't quite ready to move to the next grade.
I teach Transitional First. It is a half step between kindergarten and first grade. My students have the skills, but lack the maturity to handle first grade.

In my district, we have transitional kindergarten...it's for the kiddos whose birthdays aren't QUITE old enough to go to kindergarten. They teach kinder skills, but at a much slower pace. It's not quite as structured as a traditional kindergarten (the kids are young!), but they are still learning. I guess kind of an in-between of preschool and kindergarten.
If they are special ed positions they might have to do with transitioning low functioning kids from academics to vocational skills.
