What I have learned after one year...3 types of teachers

I have learned there are three types of teachers:

    1. Teachers who genuinely enjoy being with children.

    2. Teachers who used to genuinely enjoy being with children but are burned out.

    3. Teachers who must hate their lives but stay in teaching because they feel important when they are rude to colleagues and worse, disrespectful (read: downright verbally abusive!) to students.

    Teachers who love learning
    Teachers who are leaders
Teachers who are role models and mentors
Teachers who fight the good fight every day despite increasing demands
Teachers who spend their own money on basic supplies
Teachers who are passionate about their content
Teachers who wipe tears, dance, whisper, crawl on the floor, act out parts in stories, count multiplication facts on fingers with kids, call parents with good news, stop bad behaviors with the look, make a gold star seem like an Olympic medal
Teachers who get there early, stay late, tutor and work other part time jobs to make ends meet, whose heads hit the pillow after hours of correcting papers, who dream of school and get up and do it all again
Teachers who don't look at others and compare or complain, but who buoy others up when they need it
Teachers who still believe in what we do.

That falls under my idea of category 1. Great points, though.

I don't know if the second to last comment was supposed to be a dig at me ("Teachers who don't look at others and compare or complain") since I am comparing and certainly complaining, but I don't apologize for criticizing teachers who are verbally abusive to children. I see it more than I would like to.

Or sometimes there are teachers going through a rough patch (for whatever reason, whether in their personal lives or they have an unusually challenging class or student situation), but they do their best to make it through the year and come back recharged for the next year. It can happen to the most idealistic teacher--we are all human!

:yeahthat: I genuinely love my job most days but I definitely have those moments where I am more human than teacher.

But the true test is pulling through those rough times and doing your best not to take it out on the kids and still let your sun shine through the dark gray clouds hovering over your life (oh gosh that sounds so corny!)

    Jess,

Your #1 is the short version, Cza detailed it.

There are days when just making it through the day is a challenge. It's one thing to vent, another to complain.

This made me smile. This is the type of teacher I want to (and will) be! :thumb::clap:

Keep that as your touchstone, teacherfelly!:) there's no reason to ever let it go....there are plenty of seasoned teachers who love what we do nd do it well....
