I can't wait for Christmas! I think I've done a great job with the shopping (not done yet, but close.)

I'm really excited for Peter and the kids-- I think they're going to LOVE the big gifts I've gotten each of them:

    Julia: American Girl Kit
    Kira: American Girl Molly
    Brian: X Box Kinect
    Peter: a Kindle

What gifts are you most looking forward to giving?

Our trip to Disney right after Christmas is the "big" gift this year--it's been years since we've been away anywhere as a family. I'm super excited!

Lauren hasn't given her 'wish-list' yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see an iPod Touch on there.

Alex wants nothing; it was his birthday on Friday and he requested, "nothing, as I am content with all of my worldly possessions"--he'll be a challenge!

I think I just found a gift for my sister's boyfriend. I found a coupon for half off custom made shirts, and that is right up his alley. I usually end up getting them something as a couple, so this will be nice.

I always overdo Christmas. I LOVE watching people open presents. So far this year my daughter is getting an MP3 player, cross stitch kits, clothes, and some other small things. For my son, I found on sale a Knex roller coaster that looks like a volcano. My husband is getting a new toaster. That's what he asked for!
I will spend the next few weeks looking for small items on sale so that everyone can have lots of presents to open.
My largest purchase will be a Wii. Still waiting for a good sale for that.

I like what I have gotten so far or plan to get everyone, but I don't know if I am really psyched about any one thing. Honestly, I think my favorite thing to watch someone open will be my sister opening the homemade cheez-its I am going to make for her. They are her favorite food, but she gave them up because she is trying to eat more natural, so I am going to attempt the recipe that came with my cookie press, and use whole wheat flour and all that. If you knew how much she loved cheez-its, you would know that this is a big deal, especially if they turn out yummy.

We MIGHT be telling my little sister that we are going to Disney, so that will be exciting, but I am not sure if we are going to do that on Christmas or just wait until we are actually going. (And we haven't booked anything yet, so I don't actually BELIEVE we are going until that's done... lol). But since we are doing that, and BF and I are buying a king size bed for our gift, I don't have any big "wow factor" gifts so far. We'll see.

Well, I'm due to have a baby 5 days before Christmas, so I'm most excited about him...though only DH and I get to keep him, everyone else can just borrow him for a while. ;)

Besides that, I feel like everyone was really challenging to shop for this year so there's not really one gift I'm super excited about giving like usual. We did get some nice stuff (my mom's getting a Wii Fit that she's wanted for awhile, for example, and I got DH a camera bag he was eying. We also got my sister and BIL gift cards for a couples massage and dinner at the casino which I'm sure they'll appreciate as much as they will a night without kids!).

I am really broke right now-my family knows they are getting a homemade gift. I am going to take glass jars and fill them with things that remind me of them. I've gotten little trinkets at the dollar store, printed old pictures, even sprayed my mom's signature scent inside. I hope they like it.

Kinder~I love that idea! I hope the family likes it.

I've only gotten one thing so far. And on my dh's side of the family we're only buying for the kids.

    daughter~an American Girl Doll
hubby~TV for the bedroom (this was a joint present)

Muggle~you gave me a great idea for my siblings and their spouses! I think I'll get them couples massages as well!

Sounds like you've raised a charming and self-possessed young man, there, MrsC. What about a donation to a charity in his name? Some good links are at http://www.buynothingchristmas.org/alternatives/index.html.

Thanks, TG--I'll admit to a lump in my throat and misty eyes when he told me that. For his birthday last week, I did make a donation in his name to a charity that provides clean water in Africa and will likely do something similar for Christmas.

No ideas on what I am really getting people besides my husband and my mother in law. We gave my SIL a new camera on Thanksgiving since she is going on a trip before Christmas. I am hoping my brother, sister and I do not exchange gifts. My sister bought a house and is moving in 2 weeks so I will send her a housewarming gift.

I am super excited to give my brothers and sister the pillow pets I got for them (in August). I thought they would be something neat for the kids (they are 9, 14, 15, 15) so I bought them at the county fair and now they all have pillow pets on their Christmas lists, so I am really excited for them to open them (once I wrap them).

The best Christmas gift will be finalizing the adoption of my 3 newest siblings. They have lived with us for a year and a half and as long as the state gets the paperwork back, we will finalize on Dec. 29.

I always enjoy my "angel tree" shopping. Our church and our school both have angel trees, and our church also participates in the Haiti shoebox ministry. We usually take two shoeboxes, a child from church, and a child from school.

We don't have kids, and we're both only children. We don't really want or need anything, so we just do stocking stuffers (maybe $30 each) for each other and our mothers. We do little fun stuff.

netflix subscriptions for family members. My dad is always looking for a good movie to watch and I don't think he realizes there is such a thing as netflix. He's normally sooooo hard to shop for.

I am most excited to be giving corn bags. Two other principals and I got together yesterday and made 160 of them......every staff member at all three sites will be getting them. I'm so happy we found time to make something homemade for each person and it was great to visit and craft together.

Plus, on these frigid, cold nights they will have something that keeps them warm and cozy.

Hmmm, you know...I don't really have a 'big' present I'm excited to watch someone open. Normally every year I have a big one, or a true surprise...but not this year...not yet anyway. :)

Corn bags are basically a natural heating pad. They are made from 6 x 6 (or 8 x 8) squares of flannel fabric, sewn around the edges. You fill them with corn feed or rice.

Warm them in the microwave for 3 minutes or so. Last night was FREEZING. My bed was so cold but I jumped in with my corn bag....heaven.

We found several different prints of fabric at Walmart and spent the day yesterday whipping these out.

    Corn Bag Poem

    I'm a little comfort bag.
Just keep me by your chair.
2 to 3 minutes in the microwave,
    I'll warm you everywhere..

Apply me to a troubled spot.
The heat will ease the pain a lot.
Or warm those little toes so cold.
You'll find this nice to have and hold.

Or freeze me for a little while
And fix that boo-boo up in style.
Instead of a compress made of ice,
You'll find this pillow extra nice.

    On aching backs or shoulders
    Or necks or hurting heads,
    Apply me cold or heated
    For comfort it is said.

So when your body is yearning
    For a little extra care,
You'll find this little corn bag
Is a "friend" who's always there.

Oh, I love the corn bags. I have had several. One of the last ones I got was made from a sox. All they did was fill it, with some lavender added, and sewed up the end.

I know all the babies will love the lights and sounds of the season.

I got my mom the DVD, The Tenth Kingdom. My last year at home before college(my sisters were gone) my mom and I had so much fun doing things together. We watched this miniseries on TV and really liked it. I found the DVD on Amazon and I hope she remembers us watching or together.

I like giving gifts and receiving some is also a nice surprise but my dad didn't want to do gifts this year and instead suggested we all donate money instead to charities. Even though we donate money, I'll still find a few gifts for my husband and his family. It doesn't feel like Christmas without some gifts. It's a nice feeling to give a gift to someone so I will miss that with my own family this year since they weren't all excited to do that! We had just been giving 1 gift to 1 person to make it easier on everyone's "wallet" too.

Tennis, come up with some great home made gifts-- old photos, something like that-- that you can give in spite of dad's decision.

Or spend $30 on lottery tickets and give them out to family, then take turns scratching off.

My younger sister told my mom that she has been hunting for for a book from her/our childhood, The Cat Who Stamped His Feet.
It is out of print and i found it on Amazon Used books. For a Golden Book, it cost a lot! :)

So help me...if my mom has this wrong (about Christina wanting this book), i may have to smack someone. Just kidding!

I have one gift that I'm looking very much forward to giving! My Fiance's Dad's Fiance (got that? LOL) has been going through rough times with work and financial issues......My Fiance and I have been lucky and each make some extra overtime. The 4 of us took a cuise together 3 summers ago and LOVED it. They (his dad and his fiance) haven't been able to afford to take another one. My Fiance and I are taking one for our honeymoon.....so my Fiance decided it would be cool for them to join us.....So.....For Christmas....My Fiance and I are paying for her cruise and flight.....his dad is taking over her drinks and things on the cruise and paying for himself. :-D She's an awesome lady and deserves a vacation!! Don't worry, we'll get plenty of "newlywed time" on the cruise too....we're 23 rooms apart and have our own balcony :)

Wow! You're an amazing person! My husband and I got to take his mother a few years ago to New York to watch the US Open (golf!). It was an incredible experience. Although it's hard to give up some of the "us" time . . . I think the trip made us stronger! Plus, you've traveled together before so you know what you're getting into! I just wanted to say what an incredible kind and thoughtful gift that is!

Thanks. :) I feel like, if she can go all year living pay-check to pay-check and have PB&J for lunch everyday for weeks on end....I can let go of some of what I have to give her a week of fun to enjoy all of us being a family. I've found that I've done a lot of self-growing over the past few years....and find myself giving more and more each Christmas, and asking for less and less. I don't think it makes me a better person than anyone else, but it makes me feel good to know that maybe someone else can get a smile put on their face by receiving something that they want but could never do on their own.
