Piggy-backing off another post-- I'm wondering what other elementary classroom schedules (especially primary) look like. Here's mine:
8:15-8:30 Literacy Workstations (though many kiddos arrive earlier and get started on them then).
    8:30-9:15 Word Study & Reading
    9:15-10:00 Vocab Study & Writing
    10:10-11:00 Math
    11:00-11:45 Recess & Lunch
    11:45-11:55 Daily Geography
    11:55-12:10 Read Aloud
    12:10-12:40 SSR
    12:40-1:30 Science / Social Studies
    1:30-1:40 Packing up
    1:40-2:25 Specials
2:25-2:35 End of the day business (announcements, etc.)

    How does your schedule compare?

8:00 - Students arrive from the bus room
8:10 - Official class time begins
8:10 - 8:30 I have done many things during this time. I have flash cards the kids do on their own, math worksheets, open responses in math or reading that I put on the overhead.
Kids are not counted tardy until 8:15 so I cannot begin class until 8:20 at the earliest. During the 8:10-8:30 time I do attendance, send two kids with it to the office, tracking of homework and I ead notes from parents.
    8:30-9:10 Writing Workshop
9:10-9:50 Activity time - PE, Music, Media, Music PE, and Art on Mondays also
9:50-11:30 Language Art time-(read aloud, mini lesson, small groups, independent reading time.
    11:30 Recess
    12:00 Lunch
    12:30 - 1:30 Math
    1:30 - 2:00 Word Study/Spelling
    2:00 - 2:30 Daily Language Review/Cursive Writing
    2:30-3:10 Science/Social Studies

I am not very happy with my schedule this year for first graders but... I guess it's okay.

8:30-8:45 Kids get settled for the day, attendance, poetry notebooks
    8:45-8:55 Morning Meeting
    9:00-10:00 Specials (M,W,T,F)
    10:00-10:10 Snack/Bathrooms
    10:10-11:10 Reading Workshop
    11:10-11:55 Writing Workshop and Handwriting
12:00-1:00 Recess/Lunch (we have recess this year and it's awful... I am NOT looking forward to having to get everyone bundled up for recess and taking a really long time to get it done. It's going to basically cut into writing and reading-- Oh well...)
    1:00-2:00 Math
    2:00-3:00 (Tuesday- Art) Social Studies/Science/Phonics
    3:00 Pack up/clean up
    3:10 Home

8:00 Morning Work, Calendar Math, Morning Meeting / Character Ed
    8:30 Math
    9:30 Reading
    11:30 Tier II Reading Interventions
    12:00 Lunch
    12:20 Recess
12:35 Read Aloud / Bathroom Break
    1:00 Tier III Reading Interventions
1:30 Enrichment (PE, PE, Art, Music, Library)
    2:00 Social Studies / Science / Health
Kids actually start getting called for buses around 2:30, but we are supposed to teach until 3 (!)

Non-intervention students are supposed to be involved in math and/or literacy centers/activities during interventions.

I hate having math first. I'd much rather have reading until lunch, then everything else. We never seem to have enough time to fully explore the math concepts. I also dislike having recess immediately after lunch. The kids need separate breaks, imho.

8-9:30 Math (an hour and a half!!!!!) I only need an hour, but
the remedial teachers wanted more. I have
    average and above average

Then an hour for reading and an hour for writing.

    Lunch and recess

    Twenty minutes for language.

An hour for Science or Social Studies

Even though I teach Math for both 4th grade classes (and in turn do not teach reading/writing).. this is the sched that my students experience...

    820-830 : unpack
    830-945 : math
    945-1000 : snack
    1000-1130 : reading/writing
    1130-1205 : lunch
    1205-1250 : special
1250-130 : science or social studies
    130-200 : vocabulary
200-215 : pack up to go home. first bus called at 215

We only have specials 3 days a week .. so on 2 days we have longer time for science and/or social studies.

Because my homeroom class goes next door for reading and writing... I actually teach math twice in a row. I'm thinking that next year if we can work the specials in a better way I can teach math for 2 hours.. and in turn the other teacher can teach reading/writing for 2 hours.

I'm interested what you do for daily geography. Ten minutes sounds like a good amount to just have a tiny mini-lesson. What do you usually do for this time?

I agree with you! We start at 9:00 and the kids slowly come in from 9:00- 9:15. At least it gives me more time to work in the morning. I usually get to school by 7:00.

When you guys say 'reading', what does that entail for you? I have an hour and I do this:
*read picture book, discussing/vocab/comprehension strategy we're working on (about 25 min)
*then students either read alone, with a partner, do reading on the computer or listening center, or read with me in a group (35 min)

I'm toying with the idea of skipping the independent reading for one day a week and having them play literacy games. Since they read independently at least 4 and sometimes 5 days a week, do you think it would be okay to cut out one day? I think I would pull a group as they do the literacy games, but I'm not sure. Thoughts?

I'm also interested about the geography time. I don't do any geography at all. None. It's not really in our curriculum, but I like short activities to fill unexpected extra times that come up.
