I was thinking today. I have a great deal of time lately due to our remediation schedule. I stay busy helping my learned 6th grade math associate but while grading her papers, my mind wanders. Ultimately, at the elementary level, I'd like for my students to carry away a simple interest in the arts. I want my students to think about art as something fun and exciting. There's all that in between stuff like vocabulary, artists, styles, craftsmanship, critical thinking, etc. I truly hope that some of it sticks to them but in the end, at the age that I see them, all of that doesn't make any sense. Fun and Exciting.
I want them to enjoy art, and to never be one of those adults that says ,... "Oh, I'm horrible at art". I want them to enjoy the creation and process of art, to enjoy the feeling of a paintbrush on paper, to admire a sketch and see the artists thoughts. I want them to look at a piece of work and be able to appreciate that someone created it with their very hands. I want a lot... but ultimately I want them to enjoy art in its many forms.
