I interviewed with 3 schools this summer.

2 of the them rejected me. :(

The last one still hasn't given me a response.

I interviewed with the school on June 17. The interview lasted for an hour and a half. After the interview, one of the teachers took me a tour of the school. The principal asked if I'll be checking my emails this summer. The person currently holding the position is half time and doesn't like the job.

Fast forward June 23. No response. I emailed the principal and got no decision has been made. The next day, the job was removed from the district's job listing.

Does this mean the job was filled?

It's been two weeks and no decision. Does it usually take this long?

The position is for Lifeskills, special education position, elementary.

I tried called the school, but no one is answering the phone. I think they're gone for the summer.

I called Human Resources to see if the position was filled. They haven't returned my voice message.

ugh. :( It shouldn't be this stressful.

You're right, it shouldn't be this stressful. I've seen it go both ways. Some people have gotten called with an offer after the position has been removed. Others haven't heard anything and are still wondering whether or not the position has been filled.

If the position was filled, shouldn't the principal have said so in the email?

Is it rude to email her again?

Some principals say they'll call either way, some don't ever call. If you haven't received an email yet, I would wait a few days.

I think it is downright RUDE not to call and them someone what's up. or heck even an email - how long does that take???? I can't believe that principals do that - talk about unprofessional.

I have gotten letters from all the schools I didn't get positions in. Except one, I interviewed in April and I still never heard anything.

I know last year, I was an interviewer for a position in our school. The person we chose was my student teacher, so I could have easily called her but I knew I shouldn't until they officially offered her the position. They took forever to call her - I didn't understand what the problem was - we made the decision. She was having to miss work to take other interviews, and I really wanted to tell her - don't bother! You have a job! But I couldn't. I still have no idea why they waited almost 2 weeks to call her.

ETA - I always ask when they want to make their decision, if they don't tell you. Then you have some idea.

Wait a few days and then email the principal and ask if the position has been filled. I wish you all the best!

This drives me crazy, too. I had one interview that seemed to go well. The P said she'd contact me in a week then emailed and said she had to delay the decision. Then I never heard from her again! When I emailed her after 2 weeks it took a week for her to respond and she said the position was filled internally by a last minute transfer. OK, just don't leave me hanging!

Like pps, I say wait a couple more days and email that you are still interested and wondering if the position had been filled.

    Good luck!

    I sent another email.

I want an answer. If I didn't get the job, I want to know.

You shouldn't be this stressed over if you got the position. I don't know why principals make teachers wait for an answer. I'm sending good karma vibes your way that you got the job.

Aww not to be a kill-joy Piggy, but I had a friend who went to a few interviews that seemed just as positive - only to be turned down later. I'd say that if you're having this much trouble finding out about the position then it's been filled. An elementary life skills position would be pretty sweet. Those spots are rare here in central Illinois. I'd kill for that job. I understand your stress though. You deserve some closure.

I unfortunately find that the longer, they drag their feet the less likely it is. It's sad that they do this but it happens in every field. We still have a lot of summer left to go.

I am dealing with the same thing. I had 3 rounds... and they even sent me to the superintendent, and I was supposed to hear this week. If I dont hear on Monday I am definitely emailing. How rude. My 4th of July is basically ruined because of these people.

It can still go either way, from my experience. What about contacting the human resources department when the district opens up again. Check their website for that. A lot of districts shut down for a few weeks in the summer. I bet the dates are posted on their website.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the replies. :)

Still no response. I guess I didn't get the job after all.

What's depressing is the district has 2 openings in Special Education and I applied for both. And neither one has contacted me. Both jobs have been posted since May.

I'm thankful I have a job to fall back on. It's only a Paraprofessional position, but it's still a job. :(

I can't believe it. The school finally emailed me back.

The Assistant Principal emailed me today. The Principal and AP want to meet with me again tomorrow.

I hope they make an official offer. I'm so excited.

But it could be Part 2 of the interview? :(

Congrats :) If it is a job offer or even a second interview, this is great news. My gut feeling is that it is probably for a second interview. Did you interview with both of these people during your first interview?

If I were you, I would prepared yourself for a second interview. Go back over what was asked in your first interview, where there questions you could better prepared for, review and update your portfolio if you have one, dress for the interview and be ready to shine.

Again, great news and good luck!! Keep us posted

I think it is really a positive sign that they want to se you again. They must have gone through a few rounds of interviews and narrowed it down to you and a few others. You're getting a second interview and that's always a good sign! I wish you the best. This is it!

    I got the job. :)

The Principal and AP asked me a few questions for about 15 minutes. Then the Principal made the offer. HR will call me next week and I can setup my classroom.

I'm going to have 7 students with 2 paras. I can't believe it.

    I'm happy, yet scared.

 No, you're not! You've been a para for awhile now, right? So you have some idea and background. Now start reading up in the special ed forum for specifics. Check out the roll call thread for other teachers in your same field and ask them some questions. The rest of us can help you with broader topics. Then hop on over to karebear's thread about getting organized: HERE. She's got tons of great ideas all in one thread.

    You'll be great!! :thumb:
