Have you guys taken CPI, Handle With Care, MANDT, or some other restraint training program? If so, how effective do you think their physical holds are. I'm aware the programs go over more than just physical skills, but this question is just about the physical skills.
If you actually learn the techniques correctly, they are certainly more effective than if it is just wasted time and nobody takes it seriously. For the classroom teacher, knowing how NOT to get your hair pulled out is a real positive. I've had Handle with Care multiple times, and I always learned something from each training session.
I am very relieved that several members of my faculty are trained in this, as I needed their help to break up the only fight that ever happened in my classroom. I'm only 5'1', so I would prefer that if a student doesn't respond to my de-escalation attempts, someone on my team can keep me and other students safe.
