That's what I can't do. I can drive a stick all around town, but as soon as I hit a hill I panic and can't do it.

Shoot...I should open a school to teach people how to drive stick. Around here, teaching the uphill starts is tricky, but there's a number of parking garages that do the trick.

To get over that fear, you have to find someplace that's fairly empty, like a parking lot in the evening, or a country road where the chances of somebody coming up behind you are pretty small. Then you just have to play. I always tell people when I'm teaching them that I expect them to damage my clutch. If you can learn to drive a stick without doing damage, you're either really good or really lucky. Burning the clutch a few times doens't do that much damage in the long run anyway. It's just one of the costs of learning. I think the fact that it doesn't bother me helped the people I taught. It gave them freedom to mess up a few dozen times before they got it.

LOL kds...I'm the oppostie...sort of. I can cook okay, but nothing near the standards of my very talented family. But baking....well, lets just say there's a reason I'm overweight.

mmswm ... I bought a 5speed in college. Had never driven one. Nothing but hills in my college town ... steep ones. When it came to learning hills, my friend backed my new car onto a boat ramp and said, "your only option is forward." He only had to do this a few times. A lake of water to roll into if you don't get it just right makes you find that sweet spot of the clutch pretty quickly! :)

So, mmswm, when you open your teaching school, add water obstacles.

I have no sense of direction. I can be driving into a setting sun and think that I am driving north.

I also have no sense of direction. Everyone is always so shocked when they realize just how bad I really am at directions. I have lived in the same little town my whole life and still can't tell you where north is

My mom can't either....she can't come to visit me unless my Dad drives her (they live 5 hours away.) She said it freaks her out.

I'm directionally challenged too:D. I am a land mark driver. I grew up in a city that used names, so I get totally confused when streets and avenues are involved.

I can't say with confidence that I am taller than all the fourth graders at my school.

I can't drive a stick shift up hill.

edited to add: I am totally directionally challenged unless I have a map. Even if I just glance at the map once, I am fine.

I can't whistle through my fingers. I can't say the made up word "fopoon" (fork and spoon together)
I have a hard time keeping houseplants alive. My sister rescues them for me.
I can't drive a stick shift even though I learned how, and I can't swim unless it is breaststroke, and I can't dive.
I CAN however, touch my tongue to my nose!!!!

    A spoon and a fork is a: SPORK! :D

They really call it a spork at one school district that I go to. In fact, one of the elementary schools has the classes compete for the "Golden Spork Award" - given for good behavior in the cafeteria.

Oh, I do remember that word-and we use it at school too! The one I mentioned must have been from a movie or something-my son and my husband, my niece and sister all say it and tease me all the time!

I'm the same way. I can cook fine, but if I try to bake -- it's a waste of ingredients.

Speaking of not being able to bake, I cannot separate egg yolks from egg whites for the life of me. My wife is always telling me how easy it is. I always end up getting yolk into the egg-white.

I cannot read and listen to music with lyrics in it at the same time -- especially if the lyrics and the reading material are in two different languages.

I cannot cook rice. It doesn't matter what I do, my rice always comes out crunchy! I think I've tried every technique there is, I just quit buying rice.

    Hey blindteacher!

I can't say I'm the greatest baker either, but I did just learn a great way to separate eggs. I do a Greek cooking project with my class, and we did this on Thursday. We had to separate eggs for the avgolemono, and I started to show the kids how to carefully crack it in half, when the FCS teacher comes in. She offered to show us a much easier way-she gently taps the "top" of the egg, like the skinnier end, to crack it. Then she picks away the shell until there is a small hole, like you are going to blow into it. Then you just pour out the white, while the yolk sinks to the bottom. Then you pour out the yolk.

It was amazing! She then colors the shell, and fills them with candy. I thought that was a great idea-we're going to try it tomorrow!

Actually, depending on how far north and how close to June 21st you are, you may very well be driving in a very northerly direction if you drive into the setting sun. ;)

It's good to see that I'm also not the only one who can't drive stick. My former boss always used to give me 6 degrees of hell about that.

I can't either unless it's instant rice. I just microvave that. There's also the rice in the little pouches you microwave for 90 seconds. That comes out ok. Regular rice I can't handle at all! Brown rice is even WORSE!

I'm similar. I can't read a book in English if I have, say, Telemundo on in the background because my mind tries to focus on both. One thing I can do that freaks out my students is I can translate as I read. We were reading our spanish reader, el viaje perdido, and I translated a section directly from the book for them and they were amazed that my eyes were seeing Spanish, but my mouth was simultaneously speaking English.

I can't figure out when baked goods are done so they either come out undercooked and mushy or nearly burned and rock hard.

I can't whistle or sing. I can line dance but I'm too embarassed to try to couple dance. I have only been in a stick shift car once. My husband and I were in Mexico and he was doing the driving.

I am not ashamed of any of that but the one thing I wish I could do better is read a map or have any sense of direction. This week I made it out of town (1 hr away) but spent another 2 hours trying to read my GPS directions and I was only 10 min from the doctor's office. Luckily I left really early that day.

I'm also horrible with dates. I have to stay on top of it with my phone's calendar and automated emails to myself.

For all you non rice cookers....go to your local Asian market and buy a rice cooker. You just have to use 1 : 1 (one cup rice, one cup water put it in the pot, pot in cooker and then press the button. You have to buy the Asian short grain rice though.

Instead of using 1:1, I use one cup rice and water up to my first knuckle on my pinkie finger.

I have had so many different home phone numbers in the last couple of years that sometimes I can't remember mine. I am also about 50/50 on whether or not I can remember my cell number.

I don't how to send a text message. I'm sure it is easy but I just don't have a need to learn...
