What does everyone do w/ their quarters, dimes, nickels, & pennies? I have a battery-operated coin jar that tells you how much is in there that I empty my coins into when it gets too thick for my wallet. When at least most of the jar is filled, I put them in the coin wrappers & deposit them in my bank.
We actually seperate the dimes, nickels, & pennies to put in one jar & quarters in another. When we get close to a "big" vacation we roll it & bring it in to "help" pay for the trip!!
We have a pretty handmade covered casserole dish that we bought at an art show several years ago that we keep on our dresser. When it's full, I take it to the Coinstar machine at the grocery store. If you get cash back, the service charge is 9% (too much!) but if you get an Amazon credit, you get full value. I recently converted a full casserole of change into $119 on my Amazon account - which I promptly spent for books for school, of course!
I keep $1 and $2 coins in my wallet, roll quarters, and put pennies, dimes and nickels into a large plastic bottle. Once I have accumulted a few hundred dollars in quarters I cash them in at the bank. The rest of the coins will be rolled sometime...but that's a huge job!
I hate change. When I go to Starbucks, I usually empty it in the tip jar. (I worked at coffee house so I know that change adds up for them!).
We collect it in a pretty glass jar. When the jar is full, or pretty full, I bring it to my band. They have a coin machine that's no charge. The kids dump it in and then we go do something fun with the money like go bowling, get ice cream, or go out to eat. Anything extra gets deposited. Last time we had almost a hundred dollars. I need to do it before we move in two weeks but I think it'll be closer to fifty.
I have a piggy bank, and anything smaller than a quarter (which I need for laundry) gets tossed in there. When the bank is full, I take it to the bank and put the money as a payment on some debt.
I keep them in a Yard size cup that we got on our honeymoon, when it is full I take it to the bank to use their machine - similar to coinstar but free! I usually buy something expensive for school that I normally wouldn't buy out of pocket or go out to fancy dinner with my husband. You should find out if your bank has a machine that you can use for free :2up:
Change is good! Just as easily as the change adds up for them, it can add up for ME, I'm keeping mine! LOL! :lol:
In 4 years, I have only accumulated enough change to fill a mug. I just don't use cash enough. However, when I move I plan on cashing it in at a coinstar and using it for moving expenses. I did the same thing in my last apartment and I still got about $80 for the same amount of change. I was surprised.
My bank has one of those change machines & it doesn't cost anything. I saved from Jan-June for our trip to Gatlinburg (ended up with almost $100) and will save until Christmas now.
My bank has the machine (free) too. I save change throughout the year and right before we go on our Big Beach Family Vacation (10 days away ) I dump the change and give the money to my kids and they get to spend it however they like while we are there.
My boyfriend and I use a left over water jug and put all of our change there. We have a bank that will chagne it into dollars for free! Then, we use it for vacation "spending" money. Last year, we collected $800.00!
During the school year, I save change to use for vending machines. In the summer when I'm not around any vending machines, I give all my change as tip. I never keep pennies.
We throw all the change in a tall clear glass cylinder vase on my husband's dresser...The 'boys' take it to their bank when we take vacations- there's a machine there that counts mixed change and spits out a ticket stating the amount that you take to the teller for the cash...(Commerce Bank-whatever the new name is!)
I save all my change for vacations-oops, except for pennies, which I throw into my husband's change dish. He never can understand where he gets all the pennies!
Ours is in an old peanut jar in the shape of a bear. On the lid in big letters is MEXICO. We are going next year.
We have always had a "change" container in the bedroom. When the kids were at home, they were allowed to use it as needed. Now that they are grown and moved away, we still fill it for a year, starting right after Christmas. We usually end up with about $450.00. Last year I gave it to one of our sons who was in need for extra holiday money. Our bank counts it out for in their machine for no charge.
I save it in a jar, and pack it up when I need extra cash for something. I actually just packed it all up last week to use for my daughter's back to school clothes. I had (gasp!) $195!
Funny- I swear they have a 'Wanted' picture of me at the library...I've been good lately, but sometimes I have run the fines UP.
