As friendly advice, I'd suggest making it clear whether it's an advice or a vent thread from the get-go. ("author's purpose" in writing)

Doubtful. My number 1 reason that I became a teacher was because I wanted to help society - or more specifically, help students grow and become more confident lifelong learners. Not a doubt in my mind that that was my first and foremost reason.

Feel free to vent, but referring to kids as zombies and dumb faces is off putting and doesn't encourage positive or supportive replies.

Also, referring to members as 'fake good soldiers' and 'disingenuous' is also not the best way to garner empathy.

Then you are in the minority. Maybe not on this forum, but in actual schools.

Hey, it's others who strike first. I vent and somebody insults me.

    http://www.theguardian.com/teacher-network/2015/jan/27/five-top-reasons-teachers-join-and-quit
"One of the most popular reasons (75%) for joining teaching was a desire to make a difference, and 80% said they taught because they enjoyed working with children".

There's also a table about 2/3 of the way down with the full list of reasons, with those two mentioned in the quote being the top 2.

My apologies! I suppose people in Saskatchewan (specific study link:
    www.aabri.com/manuscripts/11882.pdf )
are outrageously different from Americans, and would go into the same profession for wildly different reasons.

Just popping back in to say:

Venting is fine. I've been known to get on some pretty nasty vents as well. I always still try to keep from insulting students or members.

However your posting history tends to reflect that what you intended as an exaggeration to be the truth. If you don't make it clear, especially because it's an online medium, we're likely to take

"I'd try to get to know the student and win their trust" or some such thing. Right off the bat, I have no patience for that kind of thing.

at face value and believe you.

I think this has run its course and sound advice has been given. I'm going to close this now.
