Morning was a-okay. Due to the cold temperatures, we had indoor recess at lunchtime. After that, everything was just awful. Lunch seemed to have ended with these bad energy I couldn't get out of the classroom. My bully-type students were calling anybody and everybody names, even when removed from the rest of the class it continued (and apparently continued for two of them in buddy classrooms). Kids would not stop talking (or whispering when things were supposed to be quiet). My Distractables were flopping on the floor, kicking chairs, pouting in the corner, throwing paper, running up and down one side of the classroom. One was literally bouncing off the walls (put himself in a corner between the iPad cart and just bounced in a triangular formation off the surfaces.) I lined them up, I drilled routines, I reviewed expectations. We modeled, we practiced, we took periods of silence. We did yoga as soon as they seemed to settle, but yoga set them off again. What's semi-amusing is my next-door-neighbor-former-retired-colleague-rehired-as-behavior-coach was in there for an hour--having been requested to observe one student. I felt half-like an idiot for not having my class under control, half-perfectly fine because I was sure trying. Anywho, I'm beat. I'm hoping my girls' colds are worse so I have an excuse not to come in. What are ways to recover and get back on track?
