I have five student tables, and I want to give each of them a cute name, rather than just numbering 1-5, but I can't seem to think of fun ideas for names! It's 4th grade, so we're studying CA history, but I was thinking of doing something a little more personal. If it was a group of 4, I'd name each table after a different Beatles member! Any ideas?
basketball: forward 1, forward 2, center, guard 1, guard 2. 5 fingers or toes. (Where is Thumbkin), thumb, pointer, tall man, ring man, pinkie. That's a little lame for 4th grade & tall man, might cause some issues. Top 5 movies or songs? I admit it, no good ideas here.
Five boroughs would work here in NY but kinda random for CA... I work in a parochial religious school so I could do 5 books of the bible too. But that totally wouldn't fly anywhere else. I'd probably just do something that there are more than five of and just leave some out.
I named my writing groups after candy bars. It's a kick to hear high school seniors say, "Ooh, I'm in Snickers!"
oooohhh I like the scooby doo & candy ideas! I was thinking Great Lakes, too...but we study CA history so it would seem a little out of place. Thanks everyone these ideas are great!
Link it to CA history - maybe regions of the state or landmarks. Big Sur, Yosemite, Muir Woods, etc. Or city names, names of missions.
The 4 teenage mutant ninja turtles and their mentor, Splinter. The five Olympic rings (represents North/South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia).
You can not be serious....and you aren't funny. You are denigrating NYC and Italians with this misguided and tasteless joke/suggestion.
Of course you can have Snickers, blazer... and Giggles, Guffaws, Chortles, and Cackles. (I can remember when Snickers were Marathons on your side of the Puddle. In which case you could have Marathons, and 100 Meters, and 400 Meters, and Half-Miles, and... let me see... Sedate Walks.)
I once did the continents and when there were not enough groups my teacher desk became Antarctica. So when asked asked where something was, instead of saying 'on my desk' I would say 'Antarctica'.
I can't believe I didn't think of this before, but I have my kids think up their own table/group names. The sillier the better. They can be totally made up words, then they make a group banner with their names on it. Names from the past: Pink Zippers Zots Hannah Montana Fan Club (a group of 4 boys) Twizzlers Bangles John Deere Greens That's all I can think of for now. They love coming up with them!
Thanks! When was this declared an ocean? Even our most current science books (from 2007) do not list a fifth ocean. Just trying to keep current!
http://geography.about.com/od/locateplacesworldwide/tp/fiveoceans.htm I teach my kids the continents and the oceans with songs!
that's what we did and they chose their favorite shows/movies. I now have: Zeke and Luther Shake It Up Rio Rango iCarly. Gotta love Disney and Nickelodeon shows. haha
Do you think it matters that the kids change seats? Would you have them make up a new name each time they change seats, or just go with the name the original group came up with? I want to change seats every 2-4 weeks, and I was hoping to put the table names on the table caddies, but maybe I can do something that's less permanent?
I don't name tables, I name groups. So if they are sitting in tables, there might be one from each group. I use groups mostly for team goals, challenges, etc. Things they don't need to be sitting together for.
