Hi Fellow Teacher Friends! Do you know what you're teaching next year? And when do you find out? I'm in a private school so we still haven't found out yet regarding next year (may not til end of summer) and I'm just curious as to when others find out/know? Thanks for your input!

Hi MissTeach, I was "excessed" at my school site due to lack of funding, but given a choice of other assignments in the district. I'm now teaching 6th grade English in a middle school, and will be reassigned to teaching 4th grade in a nearby elementary school.

There is a possibility my current school will be successful in renewing a grant, in which case I could be back at my current school site next year, although not necessarily the same grade/subject.

I will probably not know for sure till August, right before school starts. On the positive side, at least I'll be working :)

This year I only taught biology. As of right now, I will be teaching biology, AP biology, and algebra next year. I anticipate being much busier!

I'll still be at my current school teaching second grade. There will be a 5th grade teacher that won't be returning so there could be someone switched around to replace her.

I know that half of my assignment will be Special Ed. I'm not sure about the other half yet, but I should know within the next 2 weeks.

I'm pretty sure I'll be teaching my foreign language, at least levels 1-3. I'm not sure if I'll have any AP students next year; I'll probably find out at the beginning of the school year.

I'm really curious about how many sections of each level I'll have. Based on enrollment numbers right now, I have enough for one whole class of level 3, which is the largest number of 3s I've ever had in my teaching career. Usually I have between 15-20 and they have to do a combo class with another level (usually AP). I also have 105 level 2s, which should be 3 separate classes. The problem is that with all those 2s and 3s, I only have enough room in my schedule for one other section, which isn't enough for all the 1s who have registered. I need at least 3 classes of 1s in order to continue strengthening my program. Even if I do a prep buyout, I still would be one class short. I'm thinking that I might have to either kick a few kids out of level 2 or end up with level 2 classes of 50+ students. I've done that before, but it's not my favorite.

This all assumes that I have a job next year. I guess we'll see. :)

This year I taught 4th and was supposed to loop to 5th with my kids. They ended up having to make some staff cuts for next school year and I was supposed to go to another school. I got lucky because I have other certifications, so next year I'll be teaching music at the same school.

    Next year I have:
1 class of 7th grade language arts
1 class of 8th grade language arts
    2 classes of freshmen English
    1 class of sophomore English
    and
1 class of 7th grade geography

Last year, I didn't find out until July what I was teaching. This year the P told me the last day of school. I wasn't thrilled as I was hoping to get mostly high school classes and I've never taught middle school language arts. But I've decided to put a smile on my face and fake it because at least I have a job.

I've never heard of a system like this. It seems more like college than HS. In NJ students go where guidance tells them to, and teachers are assigned classes, certainly nowhere near 50 per class except for gym.

6-8 Social Studies, 6-7 Religion. Found out when I was offered the job and signed the contract. I am jealous of teachers I sub for who teach the same lesson to 6 separate classes a day.

I teach foreign language, and I'm the only one at my school who teaches it, so I teach all levels. What I would expect is a 3-2-1 schedule, which is pretty common for foreign language teachers: 3 sections of level 1, 2 sections of level 2, and 1 section of level 3/AP. Because I have such huge numbers of students wanting to take my class at the intermediate and advanced levels, something is going to need to be changed. I won't be able to do a 3-2-1 unless I drop lots of kids from the program.

Last year I had classes with 50+ students. It wasn't easy. This year my numbers are down a little bit because I sold a prep period, so those enormous classes got spread out over 6 periods instead of 5. Had I not sold a prep this year, I would have had a minimum of 48 per class. Because I sold a prep, my classes are right around 40, but I do have a couple with 44.

    I will be teaching:
    American Government (10th Grade)
Modern/20th Century World History (10th Grade)
    AP European History (12th Grade)

This is fairly similar to my schedule from this year, but I am losing Ancient/Medieval World History (9th grade) and that was swapped for Government. I'm not thrilled about it, but due to certifications, I was needed in the sophomore level course, while a middle-school certified teacher was able to take the freshman one.

I love Latin. I've never taken a course, but as a choir geek, I've sung in Latin plenty of times. It's so great; it rolls right off the tongue. Benedictus, mulieribus, fructus, Dei, omnia sol temperat, dies nox et omnia, ave formosissima, etc. Just saying the words out loud is fun .

    Okay, nerdy tirade over.

 You probably use the ecclesiastical pronunciation. I teach the Classical Latin pronunciation. Sounds different, more clunky, not as fun, still my favorite though. :)

So far. What I'm teaching usually changes often during the course of the summer.

No clue. Big shake-ups with nonrenewals in my school. I still don't know if I've been renewed for next year or not.

If I am renewed, it'll be something English. They're supposed to give us a rough idea before we leave for the summer.

Hopefully I will NOT be teaching 5th grade at my school again. I am looking in a different state AND I asked to change grade levels. I figure if I am teaching 5th at my school again, two things went wrong!!

Caesar, you have really large class sizes! I am blown away by Latin's popularityat your school. I have never been in a school that even offered it. So, maybe that is why it is so popular where you are, thus your large class sizes.

We are still working out a final schedule, but were given tentative assignments. So far it looks like I will be teaching:

    Freshman Science
    Physics
    Honors Physics

One less prep than this year! With my luck over the summer this will change and I will end up with a fourth prep. I pray it is a subject I have had before so I have resources readily on hand to plan during summer.

We won't know for sure until probably over the summer, but from the looks of it I'll be hopefully staying in 6th grade inclusion. Originally I was supposed to loop with my kids to 7th, but we are getting a new P next year who would rather us stay in our grade levels plus my team already begged her to let them keep me because I've been such a help this year. Supposedly there are going to be a lot of switching around in our Sp Ed dept, but I'm hoping I'll stay where I am since I was just moved last year. Plus I've kind of made it known that I would prefer to stay where I'm at for at least another year. I'll probably know for sure sometime around the first week of August.

I still have no idea if I'll have a job next year.

I have been teaching for five years, and have done so many different jobs it's crazy.

    2009 - 2010 - Resource (Grades 2,4 and 5)
    2008 - 2009 - Behaviour Intervention (K-8)
    2009 - 2010 - Grade 3 Teacher (Sept-Dec)/Grade 1 Teacher(Jan-June)
    2010 - 2011 - Grade 2 Teacher (Half Time)/Grade 4/5 French Teacher (Half Time - Jan-June)
    2011 - 2012 - Grade 4 Teacher (Sept-Dec)/Resource (Grades 7 and 8) (Dec - June)

I hate that I have taught so many grades, and yet still have no guarantee of a job for next year.

I haven't found out what math classes I will be teaching yet. The schedule has yet to be finalized since there is a new principal, new superintendent, and 5 new teachers in the high school. But, I will hopefully find out in the next few weeks so I can start planning.
