I haven't heard of the C.S. Lewis novel. Please let us know what you think! I am almost finished re-reading HP and the GoF. This was my least favorite book (and movie) of the series, but re-reading it I'm not disliking it nearly as much. The movie is still horrid IMO, but I am enjoying the book much more. I also started reading Team of Rivals over break. This one has been sitting on my Kindle for months. My sister gave me The Civil War documentary by Ken Burns for Christmas so I thought this would be a good time to start the book. It's going to take me a while to get through the 900 pages, though. My goal is to be done by Easter.
I just started reading The Secret Rooms: A True Gothic Mystery by Catherine Bailey. It's supposedly a good book if you're a fan of Downton Abbey. It's pretty good so far!
I'm reading Stiff about the history of human cadavers. Very interesting if you're not grossed out by those sorts of things!
I am reading Big Little Lies for book club right now. The characters are all kindergarten parents and the plot circles around the kids and parent politics at the school. A lot of it sounds like high school cliques all over again. So far it's a fun read.
I just started the 4th book of the Outlander series, Drums of Autumn. This is a series that I cannot put down!
I put a hold on the 2nd Outlander book and I still haven't gotten it. Hopefully I can get it by my February break.
The Rosie Project, I found out Bill Gates had read it and wondered what he thought was funny. It's a laugh out loud book.
Looked this up on Amazon and it sounded good, so I put it on reserve at the library. Just checked and I am #650 on the list! May order this one!
I'm currently reading All the Light we Cannot See. I enjoy WWII fiction and this one is really interesting. It follows a few different characters and they are going to all connect soon.
Reading Code Name Verity at school. It's fiction about a WWII Scottish female code breaker. Going to start The Invention of Murder for my home book. Sounds pretty cool about Victorians' obsession with the macabre.
I just started reading Lady of Ashes. It's a mystery about a female undertaker in Victorian England. Pretty good so far!
Just finished "Dear Killer". It was a quick YA read. It had a few flaws, but kept me engaged until a fairly anti-climactic ending... Just started on "The Big Picture" by Tony Horton. If anyone has suggestions for Psychological Thrillers I'd be very appreciative!
I had a hard time getting into it. I'd read a few pages, put it down, then read a few pages more. Overall, I really liked it. I figured it out about halfway through.
I'm only about half way...it has 2 story lines waiting to see how they cross.... Hubby just bought Best of Me on video for Vday...
I just finished Beverly Cleary's two autobiographies and they were absolutely wonderful! All sorts of things that happened in her life later appeared in many of her books; I love discoveries like that! "A Girl From Yamhill" followed by, and it picks up at the very moment the first one leaves off, "My Own Two Feet." I highly recommend both books.
Those books are two of my favorites, Mamacita! I've read them several times and I always find them enjoyable. I love the ending of the second book.
Edge of Eternity by Ken Follett. This one deals with the situation in Russia, East germany and the USA during the early 60s during JFK's presidency. Just coming upto the Cuban Missile crisis which I vaguely remember from childhood.
I've only gotten through one Ken Follett book. Took me forever but it was worth it. I'm hoping to read a few more.
A Song of Ice and Fire: A Clash of Kings... I enjoyed A Game of Thrones, perhaps more than the TV series. The complexity of the situations he creates is amazing. Sometimes in the TV series, I think the simplification or modification of some things doesn't do the story as much justice. I think the books do a better job illustrating how the many different interactions between all of the characters really drive the story, not necessarily just an action by one character.
I really enjoyed that book! It is almost like some adult Cinderella. What age are your students? I'd be squeamish.
I'm off for weather, and just started My Sister's Grave. http://www.amazon.com/My-Sisters-Grave-Robert-Dugoni/dp/1491548533
I have just started Orphan Train and am also reading Tattoos on the Heart. The second is non-fiction about a Jesuit priest who helps former gang members in LA gain employment. The company is called Homeboy Industries.
I just re-read the book Promise Not to Tell by Jennifer McMahon. I had read it several years ago and thought it was a great book then and I happened to stumble across it on my bookshelf and decided to read it again. It was just as good as the first time!! If you like mystery/thrillers and ghost stories then I think you will like this one!!!
I've been meaning to read this since I met the author at a book convention. I really liked her other book The Winter People.
In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson. I absolutely love his stuff! This book is about Australia and his travels there.
I'm reading Lets Get Lost. I can't make out what the plot line is, but I'm trying some YA fiction for a change of pace.
I'm still reading Dragonfly in Amber but I just finished The Girl on the Train. If you liked Gone Girl you will probably like this one. I actually thought it was better than Gone Girl.
