I have a friend who has a brother who seemed to have problems in school, specially in math. He asks me what are the techniques that he and his family can use in able for his brother to learn math with ease and without having to spend a lot of time to teach a certain concept. "What are the teaching strategies or techniques you use in order to teach math effectively to students with learning difficulties?":haha::thanks:
My school is currently using a hands-on math program called Math-U-See. I really like most of the things about this program. Here is their website: http://www.mathusee.com/ Another multisensory program is Touch Math. I've met some teachers that really like this program, and some that don't. I have only used it briefly during student teaching, so I'm not sure how I feel about it. http://www.touchmath.com/ I also like to use folder games for practice: http://www.positivelyautism.com/downloads_foldergames.html
I love Touch Math, especially Touch Money. The most important part of this is to move students away from drawing the touch points to just tapping where the points would be. I also did Mad Math minutes to help move them away from the tapping. I also have my students verbalize what they are doing so that I can hear where they make their mistakes. I use a lot of manipulatives when introducing new concepts.
