What are the hours of your actual school day? What hours do you tend to "actually work"? Do you find you go in earlier or later to complete extra tasks?

    Thanks

Teachers are required to work from 8:00-4:00. Kids can enter the building at 9, instruction starts at 9:15, and dismissal is at 3:45.

I rarely stay really late or go early. I am always gone by 4:20, because I have kids to pick up at daycare. However, I take home the work that I don't finish, and I also don't take a lunch break - I work right through it. And it's very, very helpful that I have a full time aide!

We must be in our classroom from 8:10 until 3:45. We have students from 8:20 until 3:35. I usually get to work at 7:30 or so, and I sponsor a club afterschool each day, so I don't leave until around 5:30 or later, depending on what's going on.

Teachers must be there from 8-3:45 (on days we don't have professional development or a staff meeting after school)

Students are at school from 8:10-3:30

I'm in my third year there and my typical hours are 7:30-5:00.

Teachers: 8:15-2:45, unless a parent needs to meet with us right after school
    Students: 8:30-2:40
I'm almost always at school by 7:15. I stay for extra help until 4 one day a week, otherwise I'm usually out the door by 3:15.

Teachers arrive at 8, kids in classrooms at 8:35, dismissal at 3:10, teachers may leave at 3:15.

I work from the moment I hit the school...whether meeting with colleagues, making copies, organizing my day, catching up on paperwork and school email...I'm WORKING.
One hour duty free lunch and a 'prep' period each day (both these times I'm also getting work done-even if I'm walking with colleagues which I do for 1/2 hour at lunch every day, I'm 'talking shop'...:thumb:)
Outside my contracted hours, I work traffic duty plus once a week I teach an afterschool enrichment class. I also tutor more than 10 hours per week afterschool...
I take work home, on break this week-I'll be catching up on paperwork and planning some upcoming units of study...Yeah, I 'actually work' a lot...most professional educators would say the same.

At my school, the P is pretty flexible as long as you have your prep time in there. Some teachers stay late, others come in early. Our start and stop time are technically 8:15-3:30 (school time is 8:40-3:00).

I have to get to my son's school to pick him up by 3:30, so I leave at 3:10. I get to work at 7:45 though, so my time is fine.

Other teachers have to fight quite a bit of traffic in the morning, so they come in around 8:20 sometimes later, but they stay later to make up the time.

I find I get a lot done in the morning because its before the day had time to go straight to... well down the drain- as some days do. :)

Our required times for teachers is 7:45-4:00.

Students start coming into the room at 7:50, and the bell rings at 8:00. School is dismissed at 3:30.

I am usually there by 7:00 or a little after and stay until about 4:00.

    Students: 8:00-3:10

I work better in the AM so I'm usually there between 7:15-7:30. I shut down at 3:45! It's tough for me to stay late because I'm just not in the mind set to do anything productive!

    7:30-7:45--Staff devotions (Christian school)
8:05--Students start coming into the room; official start is 8:15
3:15--Dismissal to bus rooms, but buses don't come until about 3:25-3:30. All teachers have an end-of-the-day duty; we can leave at 3:45. Two days a week we have tutoring after school from 3:30-4:00.

I'm usually there from about 7 to 5.

    We work 8:30-2:45.
    Students are there from 9:00-2:45.

I rarely get there before 8:15 and I always leave at 2:45 when I dismiss my class.
When we do have morning meetings at 8 or 7:30, we get paid for it. Our union requires we get paid if we are asked to be there outside of our regularly scheduled hours.

Teachers are contracted to be in the building: 7:30 Am-3:30 PM
The school day itself: 7:40-3:00 (though technically classes begin at 8:00 and we cannot count the previous 20 min toward state mandated time)

I usually try to be in the classroom by 7:00 so I have time to check e-mail, make copies, and just get myself settled for the day ahead. Some days I'm out of there right at 3:30, but more often than not it is 4:00 or later before I leave.

Are these time periods pretty standard? Cuz I work at a school (I'm the regular sub), and teachers routinely leave at the last bell. I mean routinely.

We are expected to be at school from 7:15 - 2:00 (excluding afterschool activities we are required to be involved in) . The day starts at 7:15 with a staff meeting and devotions/prayer and the first bell goes at 7:20 for student line-up. Students are allowed onto the property from 6am. I am usually in my classroom by 6:30am, allow students into my classroom to read, eat breakfast, chat, whatever. 1st lesson starts at 7:35 (technically, but we usually only get started by 7:40 due to student led devotions going over time). We can leave at 2pm (final bell, end of day) if we have finished everything we need to do and do not have an afterschool activity. We are not REQUIRED to do an afterschool activity, it is however recommended as our principal wants people involved in the school in a way they feel comfortable. So for me, that could be homework club twice a week, someone else could do sport 4 times a week, someone else could do nothing - the end of year staff assessments do note school involvement and this directly affects our pay as we are a private school and each staff member negotiate their own salary!

Most days I stay late afterschool as my husband and I live across the country from one-another and I might as well be at school than sitting in my little rented furnished room :) The other day I was at school at 6pm, and there were still many students at school, just waiting to be collected, so a few of them were in my classroom reading, doing homework, chatting etc. My afterschool activities mean I can usually leave by 3pm each day.

Our kids are in class from 8-2. We have to be there 15 minutes before to open the doors, and 15 minutes after school contractually. I can't get their early in the morning because have to get my daughter to school, so I stay after usually only an hour and sometimes 2. We have mandatory 1 hr. meetings after school on Wednesdays. I love my schedule!!
