    Good morning!

I will be teaching 2nd grade in a brand new school. I went to the school today and found out that the classrooms have desks and 1 smalll bookcase. What would you not be able to teach without having in your class? I guess I'm asking for what else do I need to buy before school starts. I do have all my bulletin boards so I wont need that.

1 bookcase is not enough for me.

    Consider these:

    fililng cabinets
    shelving
    cubby type area
    computers
table to work with small groups
    bins for manipulatives
    a white board/easel
    chart rack
    comfy teacher chair
    carpet

Do you have math manips, books, posters, any supplies at all?

I do have a small library, a teachers chair, there is a white board, I have 2 beanbags for reading corner, all my bulletin board sets, and some desk items. I guess I need to see about a filing cabinet, small table and chairs, and storage things...guess its time to go shopping :)

I would hold off on a big shopping spree until school starts.

Make sure you have basic supplies and materials - pencils, paper, crayons, rulers, scissors etc.

Once you get started, you may very well "collect" a lot of the things you need. People will give you stuff. You'll find stuff. etc.

The problem is that if you go to the teacher store and drop a big wad of money, you may well end up with stuff you don't need.

Now if you did go and get a file cabinet, some storage bins, and maybe some other furniture, will you get reimbursed for it?
