    Hello!

I want to make welcome post cards on Vistaprint. I don't have my class names yet, but I know how many kids I will have. Can someone give me an example of what to write in a welcome post card?? I'm stuck! =)
    THANKS!

This is a great idea. I have done this before and the parents and kids responded so well to it. I even do it in the middle of the year to keep motivating the students.
I usually just put something along the lines of " I hope you had a great summer and are ready for ____ grade. We are going to have a fantastic year". I also try to change up what I am saying, just slightly, for each post card. That way if kids are buddies and compare post cards they feel like they are get a personalized card.

So if I just do a design on on side, do you recommend me just handwrite everything else? The note and such, so that I could personalize it?

I would hand write your message. A handwritten message makes it more personal. But I guess it also depends on how many kids you have. If you just have 15-20 then it isn't too hard. If you are like me and have 80 students it would be a lot harder.

No, I should only have 12. So it would not be too much trouble to hand write them!

I just sent out postcards to my kids this week (first time I have been able to do so in the 6 years I have been here). I just put " ____________ (student name),

I look forward to seeing you at Open House on July 31 from 1:30 to 3:30.

I do a quick message like runnerss does. I have had fourth grade students show me the card they got in December. It means a lot to them! I like the idea about sending one during the year. Do you compliment them on something good they have been doing?

Sure do! :) Since I know them better and are familiar with their interests it is a lot easier. I had 45 kiddos this year so it took me a while, but I did it! The kids were so thrilled and loved the cards. This year I sent the postcards a couple of weeks before our big standardized test. The kids were getting worn out and needed a boost. I just told them how much I appreciated their hardwork and their commitment to my class. It was so worth all the time it took!

P.S See if your school will send out the cards. Mine did, and it saved me a bundle.

I think our messages go something like this.

Hi __________________! Welcome to the ____th grade. I will be your teacher and am looking forward to a great year. I have planned exciting projects, trips, and activities for you and your class mates. Back to school night is on __________ at ___:___ ___ PM. You can pick up your books and find your locker in room ____. The first day of school is Wednesday, August ___ and classes begin at 7:50. I can't wait to see you.

    Your teacher,
    Miss X

My kids also have a summer math packet to complete, so I remind them to bring their packet to school on the first day! :) My actual letter with the supply list and such goes out earlier in August with the school's information. But I like sending postcards too! I made mine at VistaPrint this summer. They are really nice!

I like the idea to send home a packet, supply list, etc. This year our team will be sending home a "mission" to complete at back to school night- maybe I'll add a little more!
