I started teaching last year after school had started, and with it being my first year I wasn't sure what to include in a welcome packet. I didn't really do one. I'm trying to be a lot more explicit in my expectations for this next year but I'm not sure what to include. I want to address any questions my parents may have...but I'm having trouble because of my lack of experience. If anyone has a sample packet, or even any pointers on what to include I would really appreciate it. :haha:

    You'll probably want to include:
    *drop-off/pick-up procedures
    *snack policy
    *homework policy
    *birthday policy
    *behavior plan
    *contact info
    *weekly schedule
    *parent volunteering policy

That's all I can think of right now!

Don't forget to include information about yourself!

To add onto what Erin said, you may also want to include:
    *attendance policy
    *supply list
    *teaching philosophy
    *a brief intro about yourself

I do not give a welcome packet. The school supplies one to each child on the first day of school. It has all of the school policies, disciplinary procedures, etc.

Sorry, I misread the thread. The school gives out a Parent Handbook, but I only give out a letter stating my HW policy, birthday party procedures, snack procedure, what to do if your child is absent and needs the work. It is very basic. I usually wait until Open House and ask the parents what they wish to know about procedures in the classroom.

Hmm... I never thought about a welcome packet. I do the whole back to school letter, but never thought about a packet.

In addition to the already mentioned, always include my classroom management plan (rules, rewards, consequences) and a parent, teacher, student agreement. This states what I will do(teach, help, answer questions, etc), what the child is expected to do (home learning, classwork, behave, etc.) and what the parent is expected to do (help with home learning, get kids to bed early, attend parent/teacher conferences, etc.)

I wrote all my welcome packet stuff this year into my website! I don't have a behavior policy or anything per say, as we will create rules once the kids get to school. I'll include those later.

You can read all my procedures here. http://www.classjump.com/jessicatls/index.php
