So I really want to use Butterfly Kisses. However, my sister used that song and I'm not sure I want to use the same song. Would you? I'm thinking of these as a father- daughter dance song: You Are the Sunshine of My life My Girl Our wedding song is Stand By Me by John Lennon
We didn't have a formal wedding, but if we would have, my hubby and I would have probably danced to "You're the One for Me, Fatty" by Morrissey. Or maybe the love theme from The Princess Bride. Or, one of our favorite songs from Broadway: "People Will Say We're in Love," or "For Good." For the father-daughter song, probably "I Saw Her Standing There" or "You Can't Always Get What You Want." We are strange people, though.
I don't love the idea of using the same song...then again, that song doesn't do much for me so maybe that's why.
My hubs and I danced to Kenny Chesney's "Me and You". My dad and I danced to Hearland's "I loved her first". My sister had also used "Butterfly Kisses" so I didn't want to repeat.
I think Butterfly kisses is overused and not the best song. I would be different and go with My Girl. That seems like a cute choice that I wouldn't have thought of.
Playing Cinderella is a good one. Not as overused as Butterfly Kisses. I didn't have a father-daughter dance at my wedding. However, I have already informed my son that for his wedding, I want a mother-son dance, and I want to dance to Backstreet Boys "My Greatest Fan".
I like the Ben E. King version of Stand By Me As a father I would love to dance with my step-daughter to I Loved Her First I actually tear up when I hear it.
Ah, that is still an on-going "argument" with J and I. I love the John Lennon version and he loves the Ben E. King version. *Sigh* I think I'm going to go with My Girl. I like being different. =)
But the Ben E. King version is sooooo good My Girl was the first song my band in high school learned, we were 4 white guys trying to sound like The Temptations I sang the lead on My Girl, For 4 guys from Long Guyland we didn't do too bad
Beatles and Lennon fan here, but I'm not sure I'd even consider his version of Stand By Me for my wedding. It's "raw" and good, but the other might be more wedding appropriate with it's familiarity...I think it evokes more emotion and memories in most people. Which I know isn't the point of the dance and song, but... Heck, I don't know. Play what you want.
I used One Hand, One Heart from West Side Story and The Lord's Prayer. If I got married again now, I would definitely have Colour My World by Chicago and You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban. I know a mother that had Sweet Child of Mine for a mother-daughter dance! Bottom line--use what you want--it's your wedding!
My friend's son just got married and she dance to "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts. I did "You've Got a Friend" by Carley Simon. I had a hard time...
I think my dad and I will dance to this song in June: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8LBUMnQgSTs
