Help needed! I'm recently engaged and going CRAZY trying to find a venue. I'm on Long Island and having trouble finding a place that's right in all the important areas. We are looking for a place with an outdoor and different feel, but in an indoor space. No traditional banquet halls- my fiance loathes them (he calls them "boxes" LoL). We want windows, a pretty view, and something different about the place. We are anticipating about 150 guests.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Old Field Club (http://oldfieldclub.com/), and it's perfectly located 5 minutes away from the church we will be married in, but it's expensive. My fiance is okay paying extra money to do it, but I'm worried about spending all that money. We also like West Sayville Country Club (http://www.lessings.com/location_photos.aspx?uniid=13&phoid=250), but he likes it much more than I do. I'm concerned about the dance floor and the bathrooms, mostly. We also were less than impressed with their "outdoor cocktail hour" that ended up being more like a few tables thrown out onto the lawn looking much like my backyard. The price is much more to my liking, though.

I'm overwhelmed and can't make a decision, and I can't find any other places that have the same feel as these two. Please help!!

How about the Thatched Cottage in Centerport?
http://www.thatchedcottage.com/ I've never been there, but Peter has photographed a number of events there and likes it.

have you looked at The Woodlands?

It's on a golf course and it's beautiful. Doesn't have that typical catering hall feel to it. Oh and it was an old "Gold Coast" mansions that belonged to the Mellons.

    Good luck!

The Woodlands is BEAUTIFUL!!!! But I think it's a bit more expensive. Thatched Cottage is in a beautiful area...but I've never been inside.

My best friend got married at Thatched Cottage in Nov. ....I thought it had a run down feel.

Snapper Inn in Oakdale is really cool, I didn't even know they did weddings there, just went to one in July- its a pavilion on the water - there are walls on 2 sides and the 2 sides facing the water are open, though they could add plastic walls. I loved it!

Thank you for the ideas. I will check all of those places out. Keep them coming!! As long as the power doesn't go out, I plan on researching to pass the time during the hurricane.

Timber Point Country Club in Great River might be an option too
