So, I am going dress shopping tomorrow! teehee. It's so soon - we haven't even been engaged a week and we have nothing planned whatsoever. But my sister leaves on the 23rd and I thought it would be fun to go so she can be involved just because I have no idea how involved she will be able to be while in the Peace Corps. I am definitely not buying anything because my mom won't be able to be with us tomorrow, so it will just be a preliminary trip. But hopefully it will give me some ideas for the big day.

Anyone have any tips for dress shopping?

I think these two are my favorites right now.

I vote that the second one looks more glamorous. Have a great time!

I would say try on at least one dress that is completely different from what you think you want. You might be surprised by different features that flatter your body differently than what you have in mind. At the same time, don't try anything on that is radically out of your price range, you will fall in love and then no other dress will compare. Have fun looking :)

I think they are both very pretty! I like the first one best because of the straps, I'm a straps fan;)

    Have fun!

I really like the second one! I agree with Tasha though...always try on at least one dress that is totally different than what you think you like. You never know how a dress is really going to look until it's on you!

I also suggest trying on something completely different than what you think you want. Sometimes you'll be surprised!

I am going to have my 12 yr old sister pick something out for me, so that might be totally different. But then again, we have similar tastes so maybe not.

I like dresses with straps better, too, but I am pretty sure David's can add straps or little sleeves to most dresses.

Try somewhere beside David's, also. My daughter is maid of honor in a wedding this summer, and they have not had a good experience with the store near us or the one in another large city where one of the bridesmaids went.

I like the first one. I love the empire waist.
For my wedding I went to the Knot online and found a dress I liked then worried about what store carried it later. I actually never found the exact one I wanted so I had a seamstress alter another one to look like it! My sister just went to David's and got her dress. It is really pretty.

So I HATED both of those dresses I posted. They looked awful. I actually liked pretty much everything else I tried but I hated those two. Funny.

These are my top two now. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product...e-9V9743_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Size-Plus-Sizes This is my favorite when I consider the whole picture. But this one http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product...e-9T9861_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Size-Plus-Sizes looked the best on me. I just hate the train and it is a little more formal/traditional than I was going for. So, still shopping for now. Wasn't ready to make a decision this weekend anyway!

I really like both dresses! They are so pretty. However, I like the back of the first dress better. Does one look better on you? (Either your opinion or those with you.) How exciting!

What my sister did was have us take pictures of her(from a few different angles) while she tried on dresses. Even though she liked a few dresses when she tried them on in front of a mirror but they didn't look that great on her when she looked at the pictures.

I like the second dress of the second set, with the shoulders. Then again, I'm a sucker for straps, sleeves, etc. I think they're flattering. :)

TeacherNY, I don't know about David's, but a lot of places won't allow you to take pictures. We had to do it sneakily in the dressing room when my cousin was dress shopping recently. I think they're trying to keep away people who go around and try on wedding dresses for fun and take photos. Whatever the reason, it's a pain in the neck.

The David's we went to had no problem with this. I can't imagine people actually doing it for fun but you reminded me of the movie Muriel's Wedding where she made a photo album of herself in a hundred different dresses

Now regarding the 2nd pair of pics you posted on page 2, I like the 1st dress. The 2nd one doesn't look that slimming (& no matter what anyone's size is, they still like to look slimmer.)

Do you like plunging necklines? They have a heightening effect.

It's because if you are in a nice shop, the designers want to keep their designs secret so there won't be any knock offs for as long as possible - at least into the next season. Davids is pretty much all knock offs anyway. :)

I will be honest - I really don't see this happening for me. lol. It might and it would make the decision a lot easier, but I am pretty sure I am going to overanalyze the whole decision. lol.

However, we put a lot of dresses in my "favorites" list at Davids after I tried them on, but right now if I have to decide, I definitely know what I would pick (the first from the second set I posted.) I think I just have to step away from the situation. lol. I was actually surprised that I liked SO MANY of the dresses I tried on.

    Plunging neckline?

Eek. Most plus size brides have ample cleavage to begin with...a 'plunging' neckline in that case isn't heightening, it's an accident waiting to happen.:dizzy:
Dresses like Silver's choices that feature a bride's décolletage can be flattering and tasteful. A plunging neckline, however, not so much.
