My sister and her boyfriend are coming for dinner on Sunday and I'd like to make some sort of watermelon "punch" to serve. Does anyone have a recipe? (Oh, it should include alcohol! :D )

    I am no help...just lookey louing.. :)

I do remember my favorite Block Party drink...Frappe!!

Maybe that is the same thing..you can do it with sherbet and any pop and any fresh fruit..I think.

Of course, if it was served to us as kids in a block party, I know it didn't have booze!

It sounds good, but I don't know how to make it. Try searching on www.webtender.com . They have a ton of drink recipes. Maybe you can find a recipe for it on there.

Thanks, Amers, I found a couple that sound good. One is a fruit salad daiquari (with strawberries, watermelon and rum) and the other is a watermelon margarita. Now, to decide....

Oooh, those sound great. I may have to look those up. I usually use that site when I have girl's nights at my house. It hasn't let me down yet! :) (Hmm....that kind of makes me sound like a lush. lol)

Actually, I thought the same thing when my original request was for a recipe that included alcohol! ;)

Try foodnetwork.com. I think Emeril or someone had a cool sounding recipe. Just key in watermelon punch and see what pops up. You could always add a little something if the recipe is "virgin."

You can cut a small hole in the side of the watermelon and then turn a bottel of vodka upside down, insert into hole and leave it to drain into the watermelon... Just don't drive afterwards...

I found lots of recipes that were a variation on this theme and they sound great. The problems--I don't have space for a whole wtermelon in my fridge; there are only going to be 4 of us, and this would be far too excessive; my daughter loves watermelon and I would hate for her to grab a slice of this by mistake!

Thanks, I found a perfect one: (I have some lemon vodka in the cupboard, it will be perfect!)

    6 cups cubed, seeded watermelon
1/3 cup Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1 (12-ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
    2 cups unsweetened pineapple juice
    Crushed ice

Combine watermelon and Simple Syrup in container of an electric blender; process until smooth. Push mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, discarding solids.
Return watermelon syrup to blender. Add lemonade concentrate and pineapple juice and blend well. Serve over crushed ice.

    Simple Syrup:
    1 cup water
    1/2 cup sugar
In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar; cook over low heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 1 minute. Remove from heat; cool.

    Yield: 1 cup

does anyone else have block parties...or is it just a Chicago thing??

I was driving in the city, and I saw one today! sigh...

Should have pulled over too see if anyone had some homemade peach cobbler!!! :woot:

They block the streets from one end to the other end of the block, with those city worker street signs. People have little carts and tables up and down the street selling food. They have games, music, and dancing.

    and my favorite summer treat..

    frappe...

Wow! The food was always really cheap, 5 cent for cookies, 50 cents for hot dogs, etc. I think they used the money to keep the neighborhood up. I could always tell, the same streets that had block parties..usually have nice clean streets, and at Christmastime..the same lights on the apartments, all the way down the street! :)

One of my favorites is a whole watermellon (a small one is just fine!) and pour in Malibu rum and add some ginger ale into it when you serve it.

    Yummy!

    Kelly :)

A Frappe is ice cream, milk and a flavored syrup. Well at least in my neck of the woods.
