Hi, I'd like to start a Student Council at our school and have no idea where to begin. I would appreciate any ideas/feedback/resources from you! Please help! :thanks:
First, okay it with your administration, then create a Constitution for your Student Council. The Constitution will have the officer jobs and "requirements" to run for Student Council. (Example: never been in ISS, keeps a 95 grade in conduct, etc). Our Student Council is just for fourth and fifth graders. The offices we have are: Pres, VP, Sec, Reporter, and Historian. Historian makes a scrapbook for us each year and Reporter puts our events in the local newspaper. Each class in fourth and fifth grade nominates a representative to the council.
student council I have been a student council advisor for 3 years now. As the previous post suggests, first you need to set up your council. We do this through school elections. We also include 3rd grade. We always begin by voting on a few community service projects. We have made hats and scarves for homeless, held a coat and blanket drive for the homeless, volunteered at a horse sanctuary, cleaned a local park weekly, tutored younger students, etc.... We plan our schools "Crazy Days". Our student council helped with the morning ceremony. Let's not forget fundraising.... Good luck, this is a great way to work with the students outside of the classroom. You'll love it!!
I've inherited our Student Council for the upcoming year. I'm very interested in hearing other's ideas! I like the thought of having a historian and a reporter. I'll definitely use that next year! My first thought for a fundraiser: welcome back/first day of school messages (maybe a dollar or two per message?). I think we'll put together little care packages and have notes the parents can write before school starts. The student council can deliver them on the first day of school.
